Employment Type: Full-time

About Commercial Stainless

Commercial Stainless is an established custom manufacturer serving the commercial foodservice industry throughout the United States. We design, manufacture, and install custom stainless-steel equipment, serving counters, architectural millwork, and solid-surface products.

Unlike a repetitive production environment, our employees build highly customized products that require craftsmanship, problem-solving, and attention to detail. We value quality, accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and doing the job right.

Position Summary

Commercial Stainless is seeking a dependable and quality-minded Fabrication Technician – Millwork to join our custom millwork department.

The Fabrication Technician – Millwork will use shop drawings, measurements, woodworking equipment, and hand tools to build custom cabinets, serving counters, casework, panels, and related components. Responsibilities may include material preparation, cutting, machining, laminating, fitting, assembly, hardware installation, and final finishing.

The ideal candidate enjoys building things, takes pride in producing high-quality work, and can balance craftsmanship with productivity. Commercial millwork or cabinetmaking experience is preferred, but we will also consider mechanically inclined candidates who demonstrate strong attention to detail, a good work ethic, and the ability to learn.

Primary Responsibilities

The Fabrication Technician – Millwork will:

  • Read and interpret shop drawings, dimensions, material specifications, and work instructions.
  • Measure, mark, cut, machine, fit, and assemble custom millwork components.
  • Build cabinets, serving counters, panels, casework, trim, and related products.
  • Apply plastic laminate, edging, veneers, and other specified surface materials.
  • Install hinges, slides, fasteners, doors, drawers, hardware, and accessories.
  • Operate woodworking machinery, production equipment, power tools, and hand tools safely and correctly.
  • Use equipment that may include table saws, panel saws, routers, sanders, drills, and other woodworking machinery.
  • Check dimensions, fit, alignment, finish, and overall quality throughout the fabrication process.
  • Identify drawing, material, or production issues before they create additional work.
  • Communicate questions and problems promptly to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Complete assigned work accurately and within expected production times.
  • Handle materials and completed products carefully to prevent scratches, chips, or other damage.
  • Maintain an orderly work area and properly care for tools and equipment.
  • Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment.
  • Work cooperatively with drafting, fabrication, assembly, solid surface, and other production departments.
  • Participate in training and continuous-improvement efforts.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in commercial millwork, cabinetmaking, woodworking, manufacturing, construction, carpentry, or a related trade is preferred.
  • Experience working with plywood, particleboard, MDF, plastic laminate, veneers, hardware, and related materials is valued.
  • Ability to read a tape measure accurately and work with fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to read shop drawings or the willingness and aptitude to learn.
  • Mechanical ability and comfort using woodworking machinery, power tools, and hand tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Dependable attendance and consistent punctuality.
  • Ability to follow instructions, accept feedback, and learn new processes.
  • Ability to work independently after training while remaining part of a team.
  • Willingness to perform different millwork tasks as production needs change.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

The Person We Are Looking For

A successful Fabrication Technician – Millwork will:

  • Take pride in building products that meet high standards for appearance and function.
  • Understand that custom millwork requires thought and problem-solving, not simply repetitive production.
  • Work with an appropriate sense of urgency without sacrificing quality.
  • Take ownership of mistakes and help correct them.
  • Ask questions when information is unclear rather than making avoidable errors.
  • Care for company tools, equipment, materials, and work areas.
  • Support coworkers and contribute to a respectful, productive workplace.
  • Look for ways to improve their skills, productivity, and value to the company.

Physical and Work Requirements

  • Ability to stand and work on a manufacturing floor for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, reach, climb, and perform repetitive fabrication and assembly tasks.
  • Ability to lift and move materials or components safely, with assistance when appropriate.
  • Ability to work around woodworking machinery, dust, noise, adhesives, and normal manufacturing conditions.
  • Ability to wear safety glasses, hearing protection, dust protection, and other required personal protective equipment.

Training and Future Opportunity

The Fabrication Technician – Millwork will receive training based on previous experience and assigned responsibilities. Employees who demonstrate reliability, craftsmanship, productivity, sound judgment, and a willingness to learn may receive opportunities to develop additional skills in machining, laminating, assembly, equipment operation, quality control, or other areas of custom manufacturing.

Commercial Stainless believes in developing capable employees and providing greater responsibility to those who earn it through performance. For the right person, this position can lead to advanced technical responsibilities, cross-training, lead-person assignments, or future supervisory opportunities.
