Position Summary

Commercial Stainless is seeking a dependable and quality-minded
Fabrication Technician – Stainless Steel to join the metal fabrication side of our manufacturing operation.

The Fabrication Technician – Stainless Steel will use drawings, measurements, fabrication equipment, and hand tools to produce custom stainless-steel products. Depending on experience and assigned area, responsibilities may include material preparation, layout, forming, fitting, welding, grinding, assembly, and finishing.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with their hands, takes pride in producing high-quality work, and can balance craftsmanship with productivity. Stainless-steel fabrication experience is preferred, but we will consider mechanically inclined candidates who demonstrate a strong work ethic and the ability to learn.

Primary Responsibilities

The
Fabrication Technician – Stainless Steel will:

  • Read and interpret shop drawings, dimensions, and work instructions.
  • Measure, mark, cut, form, fit, and assemble stainless-steel components.
  • Operate fabrication equipment and hand tools safely and correctly.
  • Use equipment that may include shears, press brakes, saws, punches, grinders, sanders, drills, and welding equipment.
  • Perform TIG welding or learn stainless-steel welding techniques, depending on experience and assignment.
  • Grind, blend, and finish welds and fabricated surfaces to meet quality standards.
  • Check dimensions, fit, finish, and overall quality throughout the fabrication process.
  • Identify drawing, material, or production issues before they create additional work.
  • Communicate questions and problems promptly to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Complete assigned work accurately and within expected production times.
  • Handle materials and finished products carefully to prevent scratches or damage.
  • Maintain an orderly work area and properly care for tools and equipment.
  • Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment.
  • Work cooperatively with drafting, layout, fabrication, polishing, assembly, and other production departments.
  • Participate in training and continuous-improvement efforts.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in metal fabrication, welding, manufacturing, machining, construction, automotive work, or a related trade is preferred.
  • Stainless-steel fabrication and TIG welding experience are strongly valued but not required for every position.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Dependable attendance and consistent punctuality.
  • Ability to follow instructions, accept feedback, and learn new processes.

The Person We Are Looking For

A successful Fabrication Technician – Stainless Steel will:

  • Take pride in building products that meet high standards for appearance and function.
  • Recognize that custom fabrication requires thought and problem-solving, not just repetition.
  • Work with an appropriate sense of urgency without sacrificing quality.
  • Take ownership of mistakes and help correct them.
  • Ask questions when information is unclear rather than making avoidable errors.
  • Care for company tools, equipment, materials, and work areas.
  • Support coworkers and contribute to a respectful, productive workplace.
  • Look for ways to improve their skills, productivity, and value to the company.

Physical and Work Requirements

  • Ability to stand and work on a manufacturing floor for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, reach, climb, and perform repetitive fabrication tasks.
  • Ability to lift and move materials or components safely, with assistance when appropriate.
  • Ability to work around machinery, metalworking equipment, noise, sparks, and normal manufacturing conditions.
  • Ability to wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, welding protection, and other required personal protective equipment.
