Job Overview

The Staff Pad has partnered with Blue Ridge Medical Center to hire a Scrub Tech I to support the Operating Room team. This role is essential to delivering safe, efficient surgical care by assisting surgeons and perioperative staff before, during, and after procedures.

As a Scrub Tech I, you’ll help maintain sterile technique, ensure surgical readiness, and anticipate the needs of the surgical team—playing a critical role in patient safety and positive surgical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating rooms with appropriate instruments, equipment, and supplies

  • Assist with patient preparation, positioning, and draping

  • Maintain sterile field and adhere to aseptic technique at all times

  • Perform accurate surgical counts of instruments, needles, and sponges

  • Anticipate surgeon needs and pass instruments during procedures

  • Handle and label surgical specimens per protocol

  • Verify equipment functionality prior to procedures

  • Communicate professionally with surgeons, nurses, and support staff

  • Comply with HIPAA standards and hospital safety policies

  • Participate in patient safety and quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent training

  • Current CPR certification required

  • Minimum of 1 year of operating room experience preferred

  • Strong understanding of sterile technique and surgical instrumentation

  • Ability to remain focused and effective in high-pressure environments

  • Team-oriented mindset with flexibility and willingness to learn

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout shifts

  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, surgical equipment, and operating room environments

  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs

  • Work with patients across the lifespan, from pediatric to geriatric
