The Staff Pad has partnered with Blue Ridge Medical Center who is seeking a highly organized and courteous Central Scheduler to join our Patient Access team. This position plays a vital role in ensuring our patients receive timely and accurate scheduling for outpatient tests and examinations, while also verifying insurance benefits and completing pre-registration requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gather and enter patient information for outpatient scheduling.

  • Pre-register patient accounts with accurate patient/guarantor and insurance information.

  • Verify insurance benefits and correct any discrepancies.

  • Communicate positively and professionally with patients, physicians, and staff.

  • Schedule patient appointments with a 2% or lower error rate.

  • Educate self-pay and high-deductible patients about MDSave options.

  • Liaise between medical staff, nursing staff, and patients to facilitate scheduling.

  • Ensure all registration forms and insurance documents are properly completed and forwarded.

  • Distribute daily schedules and coordinate patient appointment reminders.

  • Work closely with ancillary departments to ensure smooth scheduling operations.

  • Maintain clean and organized work areas and uphold hospital safety and confidentiality standards.

  • Handle phone inquiries and data processing efficiently and professionally.

  • Refer outpatient self-pay patients appropriately to financial counseling services.

  • Monitor open appointment slots and proactively fill gaps.

  • Ensure scheduling is three days ahead in accordance with scheduling policies.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a hospital or medically related environment preferred.

  • Strong emotional maturity and ability to handle stressful situations effectively.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to tactfully interact with patients and staff.

  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently when necessary.

  • Proficient in using computers and scheduling systems.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent sitting, walking, and standing.

  • Occasional bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds.

  • May be exposed to infectious diseases and required to wear protective equipment.

  • May experience irregular work hours and emergency situations.
