Position Summary

The Dental Assistant is responsible for assisting the dentists with a range of dental assistant duties in all aspects of dental care delivery of Beaufort Jasper Hampton Comprehensive Health Services, Inc. in a courteous and professional manner. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist dentist in all phases of dental care to include, but not limited to…
    1. Introduce yourself to patient and escort to and from dental operatory
    2. Take and record medical/dental histories and vital signs of patient
    3. Assist in management of medical and dental emergencies
    4. Provide postoperative instructions prescribed by the dentist
    5. Reinforce treatment plan to the patient.
    6. Record treatment information in the patient’s record.
  • May assist more than one dentist concurrently. 
  • Takes, develops, and mounts x-rays. 
  • Sets up and sterilizes exam rooms and equipment, in accordance with universal safety precautions and other safety standards. 
  • Monitor clinical support logs (CDC, etc…)
  • May order and stock supplies and maintain equipment. 
  • May instruct patients in proper oral health techniques. 
  • Answers inquiries from patients (faculty, students, and staff) related to clinic administrative functions, and schedules appointments. 
  • May maintain and prepare dental records and reports. 
  • Performs related duties as required. 
  • May perform initial assessment or triage incoming patients. 
  • May assist in training new dental assistants. 
  • May maintain and prepare dental records and reports
  • Assist in Hygiene department, as needed. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management. 

 

Qualifications

  • Completion of certified dental assisting training program
  • At least one year clinical experience as dental assistant
  • Current CPR certificate required
