Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Steel Arkansas is seeking a technically proficient Environmental Engineer to lead and support environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives across our division. This role demands a strong foundation in engineering principles, regulatory frameworks, and environmental systems, with hands-on experience in industrial operations or equivalent work experience. The role of the Environmental Engineer includes but is not limited to:

•              Actively engaging with all departments to assist with understanding and continuous improvement of environmental compliance

•              Taking a lead role in plant-wide environmental training and audits

•              Assisting the division with monitoring, sampling, and testing programs and activities as needed to demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements and permit limitations

•              Conducting preparation and technical evaluation of applications, plans, permits, and associated compliance related to environmental media, including water, waste, and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC).

•              Assessing environmental initiatives and managing contractor performance.

•              Monitoring on-site waste production, disposal activities, and recycling processes.

•              Conducting audits of disposal and recycling facilities.

•              Collaborating with and fostering strong partnerships with key stakeholders including environmental regulatory agencies, teammates, and fellow environmental professionals.

•              Capable of understanding and applying environmental laws and regulations effectively.

•              Planning and participating in community outreach and education activities

This position will require some travel. 

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, or a closley related discipline.
  • 3 + years of experience in NPDES and RCRA environmental engineering and compliance across industrial, consulting, or regulatory environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 + years of experience in air related compliance, reporting, permitting, air pollution control systems, and continuous emissions monitoring technologies.
  • Industrial, consulting or regulartory experience in environmental engineering, environmental compliance, environmental management, or some combination thereof.
  • Skilled in preparing EPCRA data management, documentation, and reporting.
  • ISO 14001 Environmental System and ISO 45001 knowledge and audit experience.
