Position Summary

The Server is a front-of-house service professional responsible for delivering warm, attentive, and consistent service. Servers are expected to demonstrate a solid foundation in service standards, food and beverage knowledge, and guest engagement.

The ideal candidate has prior experience in a high-volume restaurant setting and is comfortable following detailed steps of service while maintaining a friendly, professional demeanor. Servers play a critical role in ensuring guest satisfaction through accurate order taking, thoughtful recommendations, and efficient service execution.

Essential Functions

 

Guest Experience & Service Delivery

  • Greet guests promptly and courteously, creating a welcoming and relaxed dining atmosphere.
  • Explain menu items, daily specials, and restaurant promotions clearly and confidently.
  • Take accurate food and beverage orders, repeating orders to guests to ensure accuracy.
  • Monitor tables throughout the meal, replenishing beverages and checking for guest satisfaction.
  • Present dessert, specialty coffee, and after-dinner beverage options when appropriate.
  • Thank guests and provide a positive final impression of the restaurant.

Order Management & POS Execution

  • Enter guest orders accurately into the POS system, ensuring proper communication with the kitchen and bar.
  • Retrieve completed orders from the kitchen, verify accuracy and presentation, and deliver items promptly with appropriate condiments.
  • Maintain a clear understanding of POS tablets and wireless communication systems used during service.
  • Process guest checks accurately and in accordance with hotel and restaurant procedures.

Service Standards & Compliance

  • Follow established steps of service and restaurant standards at all times.
  • Adhere to all state, federal, and company alcohol service regulations, including verifying identification and monitoring guest consumption.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and composure during high-volume or peak service periods.

Station Readiness & Team Support

  • Check assigned station before, during, and after shifts to ensure proper setup, cleanliness, and readiness.
  • Perform opening, running, and closing duties as outlined on service checklists.
  • Assist Server Assistants and bussing teams with clearing and resetting tables as needed to support service flow.
  • Perform assigned side work, including restocking condiments and maintaining side stands.
  • Complete general cleaning tasks using approved cleaning products to maintain health and safety standards.
  • Attend required meetings and training.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall restaurant operations.

Internal Relationships

  • Reports to the Restaurant General Manager.
  • Works closely with Bartenders, Server Assistants, Culinary, and Restaurant Management.


External Relationships

  • Has regular, direct interaction with restaurant guests and members.

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of food and beverage service standards, guest relations, and dining etiquette.
  • Working knowledge of appropriate table settings, service ware, and menu items.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English to explain menu items, record orders, and respond to guest needs.
  • Ability to remember, describe, and promote menu offerings.
  • Ability to carry trays weighing up to 40 lbs. through a busy dining room.
  • Ability to operate beverage equipment and POS systems efficiently.
  • Ability to remain friendly, composed, and professional in a fast-paced environment.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Six (6) months to one (1) year of prior serving experience preferred; prior hospitality experience strongly preferred.
  • Must obtain and maintain any required licenses or certifications as applicable.
  • CPR and/or First Aid certification preferred.

 

Physical Requirements

 

Lifting 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs. It requires walking or standing to a significant degree, as well as reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing.
