Do you love gardening and want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others? JARC is seeking a compassionate, patient, and enthusiastic Ability Garden Instructor to join our unique Ability Garden program.

The Ability Garden is a Farm-to-Table edible garden where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities learn valuable life skills through horticulture, teamwork, and hands-on experiences. Responsibilities:

  • Promote JARC's mission and uphold the organization's core values.
  • Teach gardening and horticultural skills to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Foster self-confidence, independence, and positive social skills through hands-on learning.
  • Follow curriculum and horticultural guidelines provided by the Garden Program Supervisor.
  • Provide supervision and skills training while ensuring the dignity, rights, and safety of participants.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and engaging garden environment.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and development activities.
  • Assist with Individual Program Plan (IPP) processes and meetings as needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of participant goals and progress.
  • Collect training data and complete daily case notes.

Qualifications:

  • 3-6 months of related experience and/or training.
  • Gardening, horticulture, agricultural, educational, or human services experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain documentation and prepare reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with participants, families, and team members.
  • Patient, compassionate, and committed to helping others succeed.
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in all garden-related activities.
