Position Summary:

The Facilities and Maintenance Department at Florida Atlantic University invites applications for a Senior Construction Project Manager.

Reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President for Facilities and Maintenance, the Senior Construction Project Manager has primary responsibility to oversee the planning, design, construction, permitting, and commissioning for both minor and major construction projects (exceeding 100M). This role is very visible, having to interact and coordinate with the F&M leadership team, FAU community, outside vendors, contractors, and community stakeholders.

This Senior Construction Project Manager is a FLSA exempt position, and minimal hours of work expectation are 40/week. Evenings and weekends are expected, contingent upon the project or project needs. While the primary office is located on the Boca Raton campus, travel to other Florida Atlantic University campuses is expected and required, contingent upon the project.

JOB EXPECTATIONS:

Construction Project Management - Oversee planning, design, construction, permitting, and commissioning for assigned projects.

  • Manage multiple major and major-minor projects (exceeding $2 million) in accordance with Facilities Management policies.

  • Coordinate work with architects, engineers, and contractors ensuring conformity to specifications.

  • Conduct design meetings, manage project budgets and schedules, review and negotiate guaranteed maximum prices, coordinate bidding and subcontractor awards; review and approve invoices and contractor pay applications.

  • Review and coordinate the project schedule to include the construction phase, ensuring milestones are attained. Review change orders, architect and contractor payment requests, and coordinate inspections for facility occupancy.

  • Inspect ongoing projects and provide project updates to internal and external stakeholders as required.

Documentation, Accounting, and Compliance – Responsible for assigned projects from beginning to completion. Projects are to be documented, approved, executed, and completed (with follow-up plans/expectations for ongoing maintenance requirements-if appropriate) to be within the planned scope, allocated budget, and to meet all University, state, and federal requirements, including applicable and appropriate compliance standards.

  •  Review and analyze data and contractual documents, including drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and bids to meet required documentation requirements.

  • Monitor construction in the field, resolving discrepancies between construction and design intent and obtaining signoff from architect or engineer of record.

  • Review compliance with approved programs and applicable codes by consulting with relevant state agencies and departments.

  • Special Studies and Reporting- Facilitate special studies related to construction or renovation projects by coordinating with consultants as needed.

  • Collect and analyze data to support project management and improvement efforts, ensuring that tasks requiring professional engineering or architectural expertise are handled by licensed professionals.

  • Review and approve payments to architects and contractors for projects up to $100+million.

  • Review and approve addenda, change orders, and field orders within designated contingency levels.

Facilities and Maintenance Liaison -Assist university administrators and inter-institutional groups with specific construction or renovation challenges.

  • Disseminate information regarding SUS/university rules, policies, and contracts.

  • Ensure project communications align with established protocols and meet project delivery expectations.

  • Serve as liaison with university personnel, contractors, architects, engineers, and regulatory personnel. As the primary coordinator on behalf of the University, oversee progress in collaboration with external architects, engineers, and contractors.

  • Collaborate with other facilities management departments to ensure a smooth transition of the project from completion to operations and maintenance.

  • Assist and advise Facilities Management committees and participate in the selection of design professionals for major projects and continuing services contracts, if requested.

Other Duties – As a valued University community member, serve on delegated, elected, or assigned University “service” needs and/or projects and perform other related duties (as required).

  • Manage assigned staff - Coach, mentor, guide and provide leadership. Allocate or delegate work, and provide input and feedback in regard to performance, evaluation, and development.

  • Stay abreast industry standards. Attend training, seminars, conferences, as assigned/required.

  • Perform HRIS documentation, approval, etc. in adherence to university processes (both for employee management and operational work orders).

  • Serve or participate in evaluations, committees, or ad-hoc projects/meetings as needed/assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in business administration, construction project management, architecture, or other related fields is required for appointment. The successful candidate will have minimally 3 to 5 years of direct experience managing, directing, and implementing design and construction projects with allocated budgets ranging from thousands to millions of dollars.

Master's degree in business administration, construction project management, architecture, or other related fields and specialized advanced training in multiple construction and facilities and maintenance functions are very desired. Effective communication skills to document and present findings, as well as supervisory experience in managing individuals to groups will prove to be valuable.



Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

Master's Degree with six to nine years relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree seven to ten years relevant experience.

$95,000 - $100,000 per year.
