OVERVIEW

Our manufacturing company needs a Tooling Engineer to assist in the development and technical support for our existing line of molded fiber products. The right candidate will be able to independently program and operate a CNC milling machine to make parts in a variety of materials. The Tooling Engineer will be a major contributor to the R&D and Operations teams at Tellus and contribute to growth across the organization.

 

 

LOCATION: The work will be shared between two location - Boca and Belle Glade at Tellus Products. 

 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Support Tellus’s Product, Operations, and R&D teams by designing and fabricating necessary tooling and mechanical components to meet needs of the business.
  • Independently utilize SolidWorks platform to design new product shapes and features
  • Interpret 2D prints and 3D models (STP files) of parts to be fabricated. Communicate with team members as necessary to define details and materials.
  • Take ownership of our 3-axis CNC milling machine by maintaining inventory of consumables and performing routine maintenance.
  • Quote and specify materials and cutting bits needed to perform various projects.
  • Use CAM software to program tool paths and independently make modifications to part designs.
  • Use CAD software to create parts, new products, maintain tooling documentation, and communicate ideas to others.
  • Observe molded fiber manufacturing equipment in operation and use troubleshooting skills and abilities to find root causes of molder downtime and quality defects.
  • Become a molded fiber technical expert, independently gain learn the process to come up with unique solutions.
  • Participate in trial work and the start of the new product manufacturing processes to ensure productivity, quality, and safety.
  • Support Tellus’s tooling maintenance team by measuring and inspecting tooling parts for wear, damage, and proper assembly.
  • Testing product prototypes to adjust for design flaws, verify product quality, and test fit for use.
  • Collaborate with equipment and tooling OEMs to facilitate joint development and scale up efforts to successfully deliver projects
  • Provide problem solving expertise by identifying root causes for problem areas and recommending solutions.
  • 25-50% of this position will be hands-on fabrication and assembly in a tool shop.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial, Mechanical, or similar type of Engineering
  • Engineer graduates must have at least 3 years of design/fabrication work experience.
  • Will consider 8+ years of similar work experience in lieu of a completed degree program.
  • Proven ability to operate CNC mills, lathes, or routers
  • Computer savvy with basic understanding of computer programming and CAD/CAM such as Solidworks, Mastercam, Autodesk Fusion 360 or similar. Able to learn quickly.
  • Mechanical aptitude, willing to roll up sleeves, and able to use precision measuring tools
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings
  • A keen eye for detail and results-driven approach
  • Experience in digital design and fabrication, knowledge of common manufacturing methods such as machining, laser cutting, stamping, bending, and welding
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Physically able to work in various positions, including, but not limited to: sitting, walking, climbing, kneeling, lifting, reaching and pulling.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift 25 to 50 pounds
