About the position

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Junior Field Layout Technician to perform site layout and staking activities to ensure the accurate placement of structures and infrastructure as per project drawings and specifications. This role involves reading blueprints, using surveying instruments, and coordinating with site engineers and project managers to ensure accurate execution of the project design. Training is provided.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications for layout purposes.
  • Perform layout and staking using total stations, GPS, levels, and other surveying equipment.
  • Mark reference points, lines, grades, and elevations for building foundations, roads, utilities, and other site elements.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed layout records and field notes.
  • Verify measurements and perform calculations to ensure accuracy of layout.
  • Collaborate with project engineers, superintendents, and subcontractors to resolve layout issues.
  • Monitor project progress and adjust layout as necessary due to changes or unforeseen conditions.
  • Ensure work complies with safety regulations and company quality standards.
  • Maintain equipment and ensure tools are calibrated and in working order.


Qualifications & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or an associate degree in construction, civil engineering, or surveying is a plus.
  • 2+ years of construction layout or land surveying experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with layout instruments such as total stations, robotic total stations, GPS equipment (Trimble, Leica, Topcon, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of construction documents and specifications.
  • Good math and analytical skills, including knowledge of geometry and trigonometry.
  • Must be able to provide a current driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigate construction sites.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.


Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or construction layout software.
  • Familiarity with local building codes and site layout regulations.
  • OSHA safety certification or related training.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, crouch, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working in outdoor environments and on active construction sites.
