Summer Laborer (Sunflower Hills Golf Course)-Parks and Recreation

All positions require that the applicant be a resident of Wyandotte county or willing to relocate within (12) months from the date of hire. As a condition of employment all employees must pass a post offer physical examination and drug screen. And submit proof of identity and employment eligibility.

Job Description:

The Golf Course Seasonal/Temporary Laborer will work in conjunction with and report to the Golf Course Superintendent. The main responsibilities of the position are to assist with daily mowing and upkeep of the golf course; trimming with power and hand tools; applying water to the golf course greens during the summer; and assisting the Golf Course Assistant Superintendent with projects.

Essential Duties:

• Assist with daily mowing.

• Conducts inspections of turf condition to include checking for dryness, fungus, and insect damage and reports conditions to the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.

• Assist with daily hand watering.

• Operates turf maintenance equipment which includes but does not limit to mowers, utility vehicles, golf carts, and gas-powered lawn equipment.

• Assist with maintaining and upkeeping the entire golf course property which includes but does not limit to housekeeping the maintenance shop and collects trash and debris on the golf course.

• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Qualifications:

Applicant must be 16 years old. Any experience related to the duties listed above is recommended. 

Knowledge:

• Turf maintenance practices.

• Safety techniques.

Skills:

• Using office equipment such as calculators and telephones.

• Assessing course playing conditions.

• Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Physical Requirements:

• Positions in this class typical require: Reaching, standing, walking, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.

• Incumbents may be subjected to fumes, odors, dusts, gases, extreme temperatures, and intense noises.

• Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Salary Range:

$15.00/hr.
