Job Description

Reporting to the Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Assistant Vice President of Financial Planning & Analysis (AVP)Ā is a proactive,Ā collaborative,Ā data-informed professionalĀ withĀ a problem-solving mindset. The AVP willĀ leverageĀ WIT’s recent implementation of Workday Financial to develop and implement annual and multiyear financial planningĀ processes thatĀ support strategic decision-making.Ā The AVP will prioritize decision support by building partnerships and building aĀ comprehensive understanding of the financial complexities and competing needs of the organization. The AVP will lead the work to develop useful and robust analyses and long-term financial models to inform discussions of critical issues.Ā Ā Ā 

This is a pivotal role that providesĀ financial leadership and decision support to the executive level of WIT. TheĀ ideal candidate brings deepĀ expertiseĀ in financial strategy, a collaborative mindset,Ā experience working at the executive/boardĀ levelĀ and a commitment to using data to support academic innovation and effective resource management.Ā The AVPĀ should have experience with non-profit accounting as they willĀ work closely with the University Controller to ensureĀ budgeting,Ā forecasting andĀ decision support incorporate the primary tenants of non-profit/higher education accounting rules.Ā Ā 

Key Responsibilities:

Long range strategicĀ financialĀ planningĀ Ā 

  • Work closelyĀ with the Senior Vice President (SVP) and CFO on budget development, long-term financial projections, pro forma planning, cost benefit analysis, program/unit performance.   

  • Build/refineĀ dynamic planningĀ tools to enable scenario planning withinĀ multi-year operational and capital financial plans.

  • Provide decision support toĀ academic and administrative leaders to evaluate initiatives, enrollment strategies, tuition models, and capital projects.Ā 

  • Support analysisĀ on projects,Ā programsĀ and initiatives for which there is a financialĀ component. Such projects may includeĀ private-partnershipĀ projects, andĀ third partyĀ vendor partnerships.   

Financial Reporting & AnalysisĀ 

  • Ensure that academic and administrative leadersĀ can access and effectively useĀ key financial reportsĀ that canĀ supportĀ daily/ongoing decision making.Ā Ā 

  • Develop strong partnerships with academic and administrative leaders to supplement self-service reporting withĀ more detailed trend analysis.

  • Partner with keyĀ stakeholders to developĀ analysis of trends within key areas, including enrollment, net tuition, auxiliary revenue, capital spending, andĀ provideĀ recommendations for long-range planning.

  • Partner with Controller to ensure that accounting standard operating procedures and internal controls (SOPIC)Ā are supportingĀ ongoingĀ budgetingĀ reporting & analysis.

  • Partner with technical experts to enhance and maximize use of executive and department-level reporting.

Budget DevelopmentĀ and Ongoing ForecastingĀ 

  • LeadĀ the annual budget process, includingĀ providingĀ analysis and recommendations throughout the budget cycle to ensure sustainability and strategic alignment.Ā 

  • Lead in-year performance analysis, including quarterly reforecasts;Ā identifyĀ variances andĀ partner withĀ academic and administrative leaders toĀ developĀ tradeoff-basedĀ solutions.

  • Partner withĀ ControllerĀ and accounting teamĀ to conduct quarterly financialĀ closes, andĀ provide year-over-year flux analysis.Ā Ā 

  • Partner with Controller during annual close; create and analyze a wide range of financial statements in support of WIT’s annual core financial audit.

Community engagement & executive level communicationĀ Ā 

  • Present complex financial data in clear, actionable formats for a broad audience.Ā 

  • Build cross-functional, trusted partnershipsĀ relationships that support financialĀ transparency and data-informed planning across the organization.

  • Have a collaborative, open, and inquisitive style that encourages innovation and thoughtful experimentation.    

  • Build and nurture strong relationships with internal teams, partners, and stakeholders toĀ facilitateĀ proactive communication and collaboration across all financial functions.    

  • Be an influential leader with the ability to elevate the performance of the team – individually and collectively.    

Leadership & Team DevelopmentĀ 

  • Supervise one Senior Financial Analyst.

  • Serve asĀ seniorĀ member of the WIT finance team leadership team, helping toĀ foster aĀ culture of service, collaboration, and excellence.Ā Ā 

  • Partner withĀ ControllerĀ to ensure that theĀ Accounting and Financial Planning teams are aligned throughout all phases of the annual financial cycle.Ā Ā 

  • Partner with other senior members of the WIT finance team to foster a culture of service, promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in resource planning and financial decision-making.Ā 

MinimumĀ QualificationsĀ and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.Ā Ā 

  • 10 years of progressively responsible experience in financialĀ services, preferably in higher education.Ā 

  • StrongĀ proficiencyĀ in financial modeling, forecasting, and variance analysis.Ā 

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.Ā 

  • Experience leading teams and managing complex financial systems and processes.Ā 

  • Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative mindset, and ability to build trust across departments and hierarchical levels.Ā 

  • High attention to detail and the ability to synthesize complex financial and operational data for executive use.Ā 

  • Experience managingĀ changeĀ related to systems implementation, budget reform, or institutional transformation.Ā

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree;Ā MPA,Ā CPA,Ā MBA, or similar financial certification.Ā 

  • Knowledge of fund accounting, GASB standards, and nonprofit financial reporting.Ā 

  • Experience with tuition pricing models, enrollment management, grant funding, and auxiliary operations.Ā 

  • ProficiencyĀ in Workday Financial Management modules, including general ledger, budgeting, reporting, andĀ grantsĀ management.Ā
