Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell seeks a highly motivated attorney to join her Office’s Consumer Protection Division as an Assistant Attorney General.  The Division enforces the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act (M.G.L. c. 93A) and seeks to protect consumers from abusive practices in debt collection, automobile sales, mortgage lending, and student lending, among many other areas.  Racial justice is a strategic priority of the Office, and we aim to serve the most vulnerable consumers in the Commonwealth.



Primary Duties:  The Assistant Attorney General (AAG) in the Consumer Protection Division will initially join a team in pursuing major litigation involving social media platforms and children. In the longer term, the AAG will be responsible for identifying problematic business practices that negatively impact consumers, evaluating their suitability for enforcement, and ultimately, investigating and litigating civil actions on behalf of the Commonwealth, where appropriate.  The AAG will be expected to develop and implement concrete strategies for remedying industrywide consumer abuses and may also have the opportunity to participate in legislative and regulatory policy development at both the state and federal levels. 



Position Requirements:

  • Must be a member of the Massachusetts Bar.
  • At least three (3) years of prior complex litigation or equivalent legal experience preferred.
  • Ability to integrate new and complicated subject areas.
  • Excellent formal and informal writing, legal analysis, negotiation, oral advocacy skills.
  • Ability to analyze and explain complex data.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to practicing law in the public interest.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, or other languages preferred.

Location: This position may be based in the Boston Office, Springfield Regional Office, New Bedford Regional Office, or Worcester Regional Office.  Office location will be determined based on the candidate’s expressed preference and space availability. For a candidate based in the Springfield, Worcester, or New Bedford Office, travel to the AGO’s Boston office is expected for relevant work matters, including trials.

 

Position Type:  Full-Time/Exempt. Our current hybrid model includes some remote workdays for most positions.

 

Salary:  $87,500 to $130,595, commensurate with JD year.
