Overview

This BI Developer role is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a growing and evolving enterprise Business Intelligence function. As a Business Intelligence Developer, you will design, develop, and support data integration processes and reporting solutions that help drive informed decision-making across Finance, Practice Management, Marketing, Human Resources, and other firm business functions.

 

You will work closely with both technical team members and business stakeholders to deliver accurate, reliable, and user-friendly analytics solutions. A strong customer service orientation and ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders are essential to success in this role.

 

This position is ideal for a developer with solid BI experience who enjoys hands-on technical work, thrives in a dynamic environment requiring the ability to manage multiple priorities, and wants to contribute to the modernization of our data platform while maintaining exceptional service to the firm.

 

This is a hybrid on-site position requiring 3 days per week presence in our Boston office.

Responsibilities

Data Development & Integration

  • Develop and maintain ETL/ELT processes using SSIS, Fivetran, and related modern data integration tools.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of a Medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers) to support scalable, governed data pipelines.
  • Integrate data from financial systems, CRM platforms, human resources, operational systems, and external providers.
  • Write and maintain T-SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and transformations.
  • Participate in CI/CD workflows using Git and deployment pipelines to ensure agility and solution resiliency.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data issues in collaboration with team members.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of data integrity and quality practices and standards.
  • Support enhancements to existing data warehouse tables and reporting datasets.
  • Create and maintain solution artifacts such as design documents, test plans, and work breakdown structures (WBS) used in project execution.
  • Deliver solutions with strong pipeline resiliency and integrity checking.
  • Explore and support the integration of AI and machine learning capabilities into data pipelines and analytics solutions.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Develop and maintain reports and dashboards using SSRS and Microsoft BI technologies.
  • Support business users with KPI dashboards, operational reporting, and ad hoc data requests.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and clarify reporting requirements.
  • Leverage business knowledge to assist stakeholders with content decisions on reports and dashboards.
  • Ensure reporting outputs align with defined business rules and metric definitions.
  • Optimize report performance and usability.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in solution design discussions with the BI team.
  • Work closely with business partners to understand reporting needs and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by proactively communicating status, managing expectations, and ensuring stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Follow established development standards and best practices.
  • Continuously expand technical skills and stay current with BI tools, emerging technologies (including AI/ML), and modern data platform methodologies

Qualifications

Required Experience

  • 6–8 years of experience in Business Intelligence development or data engineering.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Hands-on experience with SSIS and SSRS (or similar Microsoft BI tools).
  • Solid T-SQL skills, including query writing and performance optimization.
  • Experience working with structured data models and reporting datasets.
  • Experience with Git-based version control and CI/CD practices.

Preferred Experience

  • Legal firm data familiarity preferred.
  • Experience with Azure data services (Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks) or equivalent cloud platforms.
  • Experience with modern ELT tools such as Fivetran, dbt, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with Medallion architecture or multi-layer data platform design.
  • Experience working with APIs or basic scripting (Python a plus).
  • Experience supporting financial or operational reporting environments.
  • Exposure to AI/ML concepts or tools in a data context.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field required
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Microsoft Business Intelligence Developer or equivalent certifications preferred

The anticipated pay range for this role is listed below and represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the starting salary range at the time of posting. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors, including qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data and consideration of internal equity.

  • Boston: $101,900 - $155,350
