The Environmental League of Massachusetts (ELM) Action Fund is seeking current college, undergraduate or graduate, students, to join our Campaign and Advocacy Fellows program for the Summer 2026 sessionHelp us elect climate champions, advance strong environmental policy, and empower the environmental community in Massachusetts.



Background 

The ELM Action Fund oversees a longstanding and highly successful paid fellowship program, engaging students across Massachusetts with interests in environmental policy and political campaigns. Through the fellowship program, students connect with talented changemakers and learn valuable skills to advance their environmental careers. 



Our fellows specialize in a wide range of work, from politics and policy to communications and graphic designTogether, they work toward the common goals of advancing strong environmental policy and building the power of the environmental community in Massachusetts. 



The ELM Action Fund Fellows program is highly esteemed and respected, and has led alumni of the program to rewarding and impactful positions at influential organizations, including the United States Environmental Protection Agency, Clean Energy Ventures, the City of Boston, the League of Conservation Voters, the New York City Department of Transportation and the Massachusetts State House.

Summer Session Details and Responsibilities 

Our Summer fellowship program runs from May through August, but exact start and end dates are flexible. This position will report directly to Rob Hart, the ELM Action Fund’s Campaign & Advocacy Manager. 

  • 15 – 20 hours per week, $18 per hour 
  • Responsibilities include:  
  • Conduct policy and political research 
  • Read and summarize legislation 
  • Assist with electoral data management 
  • Campaign for our endorsed candidates (door knocking, phone banking) 
  • Attend events with ELM and ELM Action Fund Staff, including political fundraisers, State House briefings, policy roundtables, and other ELM-sponsored events. 
  • Hybrid work environment with both in-person and remote work requiredFellows in the Boston area are strongly encouraged to work in the ELM office at least once per week, though norequired 
  • Some nights and weekends are required 



Competitive Candidates Will Possess:
 

  • Ability to work both collaboratively and as a self-starter 
  • Demonstratecommitment to environmental advocacy 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Strong research, data management, and note taking skills 
  • Comfort talking to voters on the phone and in person 
  • Demonstrated commitment to environmental justice, recognizing the essential role of racial equity in responding to climate change. 
  • Community organizing or political campaign experience a plus 
  • Customer service or similar experience a plus
