KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Ā
Reviews and approves, prior to dispensing a drug, allĀ initialĀ andĀ routineĀ ordersĀ ensuringĀ the therapeutic appropriateness of the medication order, and its relative cost effectiveness.Ā
OverseesĀ the activities of the intravenous admixture area, and reviews and approves, prior to dispensing, all new orders prepared by the sterile products room.Ā
Provide drug information to and consult with physicians and nurses regardingĀ appropriate drugĀ therapy.Ā
Supervises approximately twoĀ pharmacyĀ technicians, and one to three Pharmacy Interns, whoĀ are responsible forĀ filling and checking unit-doseĀ medicationsĀ carts, inventory control, initialĀ interpretationĀ and input intoĀ computer ofĀ medication orders.Ā
Participates in daily patient rounds to provide input as to the selection and rational approach to the pharmacotherapy of the patient's disease including pharmacologic and pharmacokinetic principles, toxic and side effects of drugs as well as individual dosage recommendations for the drug or drugs to be administered.Ā
Participates in the orientation,Ā hiringĀ and training of all new personnel.Ā
ParticipatesĀ onĀ inter andĀ intradepartmentalĀ committeesĀ in order toĀ integrate and coordinate the activities of Pharmacy, Nursing, UnitĀ CoordinationĀ and the physician staff.Ā
ParticipatesĀ in the orientation and training of all new personnel.Ā
Interviews patients to obtainĀ accurateĀ and comprehensive patient medical history for the patient's medical record including prescribed medications, over-the-counter medicationsĀ regularly used, adverse reactions to drugs and allergies.Ā
Participates in investigational drug studies through assisting in the design of dispensing protocols,Ā maintainingĀ drug records and inventory control, formulating dosages,Ā monitoringĀ patientsĀ and ensuring compliance with FDA and DEA regulations.Ā
Prepares drug monographs and review of drugs requested for admission to Hospital's Formulary.Ā AssistsĀ in reviewing the cost of drugs and making necessary adjustments, asĀ required.Ā
Acts as a preceptor to pharmacy students and residents.Ā
Conducts in-service education lectures for the medical staff, nurses, pharmacists, students, and other health care personnelĀ regardingĀ drugs,Ā proceduresĀ and policies.Ā
AssistsĀ in the formulation and continual updating of departmental policies andĀ proceduresĀ and pharmacy-nursing policies and procedures.Ā
Must be able to collaborate and effectively communicate with physicians,Ā nursesĀ and other health care professionals.Ā

JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE/TECHNICAL/OTHER:Ā
Education:Ā Graduate of college of Pharmacy accredited by ACPE or equivalent.Ā
Experience:Ā At leastĀ 2Ā yearsĀ hospital pharmacy experienceĀ orĀ PGY1Ā residencyĀ completion.Ā
Certification/Licensure:Ā Current license to practice Pharmacy inĀ MassachusettsĀ andĀ maintainĀ all required CE by the hire date.
Software/Hardware:Ā Preferred: Pyxis, Meditech, Microsoft Office.

Compensation Range:
$52.40- $75.96This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications.
