The Environmental League of Massachusetts (ELM) and the ELM Action Fund (ELM AF) advocate for policy and build political power in Massachusetts to meet the scale and urgency of our environmental challenges. The Communications Coordinator will be an integral member of a collegial and effective 23-person advocacy organization. As a member of the Communications Team, you will play a critical role in expanding our capacity for mission-driven messaging and marketing campaigns. We are a collaborative five-person team looking for candidates who have a passion for inspiring, informing, and engaging audiences through digital channels. You will help us expand the reach of our social media, including our newly established Instagram account, as well as help further develop our visual style. You must thrive in a fast-paced environment, be a self-starter and dedicated team player, and have strong
planning skills.


Responsibilities:

Digital Media

  • Develop and manage a monthly external communications calendar, proactively generating ideas and incorporating input from colleagues
  • Grow our social media presence on Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Bluesky
  • Create and post new, engaging content about events, policy priorities, candidate endorsements, and key news
  • Write, direct, and edit short-form video content
  • Engage with content creators to improve our reach
  • Manage the platforms day-to-day, including engaging with partners’ content and responding to comments and messages
  • Drive the creation and placement of social media ads for political endorsements, legislative campaigns, and brand recognition
  • Build and send marketing emails and create automations for fundraising, policy and action alerts, event invitations, election endorsements, and other organizational priorities
  • Maintain our four websites:
    environmentalleague.org, elmaction.org, NetZeroMA.org, GreenVoterGuideMA.com)


Content Creation

  • Translate complex policy topics to educate digital audiences and drive engagement
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop: Medium-form policy content for websites and LinkedIn, short-form policy content, including graphics and reels, for Instagram
  • Work with external partners, such as political candidates, advocates, and elected officials, to create collaborative social media content
  • Provide copywriting and copy-editing support for all staff as needed
  • Support the development and promotion of ELM’s media efforts, including press releases and op-eds


Graphic Design

  • Create digital graphics related to events, policy advocacy, political campaigns, and brand awareness for use on social media, for ads, in emails, and on our website
  • Partner with staff to create presentation materials, including PowerPoints
  • Support the creation of printed materials, such as the annual report and events resources


Data Administration

  • Collect and organize website, social media, and email performance data monthly
  • Analyze data to inform and strengthen our marketing strategies
  • Maintain
    and optimize
    our email marketing system, including contact lists, automations, and integrations


Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience in communications or a related field
  • Experience with graphic design
    (Canva experience preferred)
  • Experience managing social media accounts, including video creation
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and detail-oriented
  • Superior technology skills and eagerness to learn new digital communications platforms
  • Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Impeccable judgement
  • Commitment to integrating racial justice and equity into ELM’s work and to ensuring an inclusive organizational culture
  • Familiarity with email marketing systems and WordPress are preferred
  • Passion for ELM’s purpose, mission, vision, and values

 

Compensation & Benefits:
$60,000-$64,000, depending on experience. ELM provides 6 weeks paid time off per year in addition to holidays and the days between Christmas and New Years, health and dental insurance, Health Savings Account, and a 403(b)-retirement plan with organizational match.

This full-time role requires occasional morning and evening commitments outside of the standard 9-5 office hours. This position is based in Boston, MA. ELM supports a hybrid work environment and expects employees to work from the downtown Boston office at least 2-3 days per week.
