Data Analyst Intern

Canaccord Genuity seeks to hire entrepreneurial, team-oriented, self-motivated, and driven professionals to join our IT Applications Department as a Summer Intern. This role is ideal for current students eager to develop strong analytical, technical, and business‑facing skills in a fast‑paced financial‑services environment. You will help support the firm’s data reporting, analytics, and operational intelligence efforts. This role will be located in Boston or New York City where our IT professionals are located.


In this role you will have the opportunity to support in any of the following areas: 

 

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Assist in creating and updating dashboards, recurring reports, and ad‑hoc analyses.
  • Help identify basic data trends to support operational and strategic decisions.
  • Support validation of data accuracy and completeness across reporting environments.


Data Management & Quality

  • Perform routine data quality checks under guidance from senior team members.
  • Help research and document data discrepancies or issues surfaced by business users.
  • Assist in maintaining documentation of data sources, transformations, and business rules.


Collaboration & Requirements Gathering

  • Work with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs and translate them into analytical tasks.
  • Collaborate with senior team members to support enhancements to the firm’s data models, ETL workflows, and reporting tools.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss data challenges and process improvements.


Operational Support

  • Provide support for daily and weekly reporting cycles.
  • Assist in troubleshooting basic data and reporting issues.
  • Help maintain team documentation, process guides, and quality‑assurance checklists.

 

Desired Technical Skills

  • Basic understanding of relational database concepts
  • Introductory knowledge of MS SQL Server Transact-SQL an Python (coursework or project experience welcome)
  • Exposure to stored procedures or hands-on practice through academic projects
  • Interest in learning about ETL tools and data workflows

 

Required Qualifications

  • Rising senior working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Finance, or related field.
  • Relevant coursework or academic/side projects involving data analysis or reporting. 
  • Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail. 
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Organized, proactive, and comfortable working in a dynamic team environment.
