The Director, Data Products & Engineering, leads the development, expansion, and delivery of Plymouth Rock’s enterprise data assets within the enterprise data lake on AWS. This role owns the end-to-end delivery of ingestion, transformation, and data availability pipelines and is measured on throughput, reliability, and speed of delivery. This role is responsible for ensuring that the enterprise data lake is complete, high-fidelity, low-latency, and continuously expanding to meet the needs of Business Intelligence, Machine Learning, and AI data services and consumption patterns.

Responsibilities

Enterprise Data Product Strategy & Delivery

  • Draw from your deep and broad technical and management expertise to mentor senior engineers and managers, complete hands-on technical work, and provide leadership on complex technical issues, design tradeoffs, and feature and schedule prioritization.
  • Define the processes needed to achieve operational excellence in all areas including process management, resiliency and quality
  • Conduct research of strategic & emerging trends, lead proofs of concept and continuously drive innovation across the team
  • Lead the development of enterprise data products aligned to business and domains, ensuring data is structured, accessible, and reusable.
  • Define and prioritize the data roadmap in alignment with business needs, AI/ML use cases, and platform evolution.

Continuous, Rapid Data Expansion (Depth & Breadth)

  • Execute ingestion of structured, unstructured, and streaming data sources into the lake, closing data leakage gaps by capturing data directly from frontline systems.
  • Own hands-on delivery of the AWS data lake using S3, Glue, EMR, Lake Formation, Athena, Kinesis, and RDS/Aurora — architecting, reviewing, and, when needed, directly building pipeline components.
  • Drive continuous improvement of ingestion speed, pipeline reliability, and processing efficiency through concrete, measurable engineering changes each sprint.
  • Own production reliability of the data lake: monitoring, incident response, root-cause resolution, and prevention of recurring failures.
  • Partner with application teams to eliminate data leakage by capturing all data generated by frontline systems.

Data Engineering & Platform Execution

  • Deep hands-on experience with core AWS data services, including S3, Glue, EMR, Lake Formation, Athena, Kinesis, and RDS/Aurora
  • Optimize the storage patterns of all enterprise data assets to ensure accessibility, cost efficiency, stability, and reliability, while ensuring that data is curated, standardized, partitioned, and stored in the appropriate layer of the Data Lake medallion architecture.
  • Ensure ingestion metadata (including process and lineage) is complete, accurate, and consistent with governance standards, and that business tools/processes hosting and applying business semantics at the appropriate point in curation are stable and fast.
  • Lead teams of data engineers and product owners responsible for ingestion, transformation, and delivery of data across the enterprise data warehouse and data lake.
  • Continuously improve data ingestion speed, pipeline reliability, and processing efficiency.
  • Embed business context into data product development, ensuring outputs are actionable and aligned to operational needs.
  • Partner with Data Governance & Architecture to ensure data products align with standards. Ensure consistent, well-organized documentation.

Agile Product Execution & Scaled Delivery

  • Organize data platform into an agile product structure.
  • Ensure products squads deliver incrementally and are accountable for measurable outcomes aligned to the objectives of the data office.
  • Establish and manage agile delivery practices, including sprint cycles, backlog prioritization, and release management.
  • Coordinate Applications, Data Services, and AI/ML teams ensuring alignment across interdependent data ingestion, and consumption workstreams.
