About the Role

The Specialty Growth Analyst will contribute differentiated investment ideas across small- and mid-cap growth strategies as part of a collaborative portfolio management team. This role involves conducting fundamental equity research, building detailed financial models, and clearly articulating investment theses to portfolio managers. The analyst will actively monitor portfolio holdings, engage with internal and external research partners, and help drive long-term investment performance through disciplined stock selection.

About the Team

The Specialty Growth Strategies (SGS) platform is a 10-member, Boston-based team within Loomis, Sayles & Company, overseeing more than $5 billion in assets across three equity strategies: Small Cap Growth, Mid Cap Growth, and Small/Mid Cap Growth. The team employs a collaborative, bottom-up fundamental investment process, with active stock selection as the primary driver of long-term returns.

Job Responsibilities

  • Understanding the product – its strategy, benchmark and any portfolio constraints
  • Absorbing, and “living” the team’s investment philosophy and process
  • Generating, analyzing and contributing stock ideas to the portfolio in a high-volume environment that requires intelligent decisions to be made quickly
  • Communicating investment theses to the portfolio managers clearly and with conviction, then working with the portfolio managers to determine portfolio fit.
  • Keeping an analyst’s watchful eye on portfolio holdings – staying abreast of external and internal developments that may influence stock performance
  • Developing relationships with sell-side research providers and independent industry resources
  • Building models that include income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow projections

Qualifications & Education Requirements

  • A CFA and/or an MBA preferred
  • 5-10 years of fundamental investing experience, preferably in the small cap growth space
  • A passion for the markets that is evidenced by being clearly and identifiably “stock savvy” with a “growth” bias
  • The desire to work on a close team with a ‘team first’ mentality, while having the capacity to work individually, as well as the willingness to accept direction from two PMs
  • Mental agility – the capacity to see, consider and respond to the changing environments that may influence a stock’s price
  • Exceptional and tested equity research skills including proficiency in modeling
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills (a writing sample will be requested)
  • Being a self starter with a positive outlook, an entrepreneurial spirit and a sense of excitement over helping the Specialty Growth platform continue to grow
  • The willingness and ability to travel
  • A demonstrated ability to make money
  • Analyst candidates - Having an MBA degree or CFA charter with a strong academic background is preferred
