Harpoon Brewery is looking for a Lead Server/Bartender to help lead our front-of-house team in one of Boston's most iconic brewery and hospitality environments. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced restaurant, taproom, or beer garden setting and enjoys mentoring others while delivering exceptional service.

As a Lead Server/Bartender, you'll play an important leadership role on the floor - supporting daily operations, coaching teammates, and helping create the energetic, welcoming atmosphere Harpoon is known for.

What You'll Do

Deliver Exceptional Guest Experiences

  • Welcome guests with genuine hospitality and guide them through our food, beer, and merchandise offerings

  • Take food and beverage orders accurately using Toast POS

  • Deliver food and drinks efficiently while maintaining presentation and service standards

  • Make thoughtful recommendations on beer styles, pairings, and seasonal offerings

  • Share the Harpoon story and brewery culture with guests

  • Anticipate guest needs and resolve concerns professionally and positively

Lead & Support the Front-of-House Team

  • Act as a shift lead during service while supporting smooth daily operations

  • Assist with opening and closing procedures

  • Help train and mentor new team members

  • Lead by example during busy service periods with a calm and positive approach

  • Support communication between FOH staff and management

  • Contribute to a strong team culture rooted in respect, accountability, and hospitality

Support Operations & Retail

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and stocked service environment

  • Handle cash and credit card transactions accurately

  • Assist with inventory awareness and operational readiness

  • Support private events and special activations as needed

  • Assist with beer-to-go and merchandise sales

  • Stay knowledgeable about promotions, seasonal beers, and brewery events

What We're Looking For

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years old

  • TIPS certified or willing to obtain certification upon hire

  • 1–2 years of restaurant, bar, brewery, or hospitality experience required

  • Previous shift lead or team leadership experience is a plus

  • Strong communication and guest service skills

  • Ability to multitask and stay composed in a high-volume environment

  • Passion for hospitality, teamwork, and craft beer culture

Schedule & Work Environment

  • Nights, weekends, and holiday availability required

  • Indoor and outdoor service depending on season

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods

  • Lift and carry up to 30 lbs regularly

  • Assist with moving kegs up to 150 lbs with team support

  • Bend, reach, carry trays, and work in active service environments

Important Role Clarification

This is a tipped, hourly, non-exempt leadership role and does not include managerial responsibilities such as hiring, firing, scheduling authority, disciplinary action, or budget management.
