About the Job:

The Medical Communications and Training Manager is a core member of the Medical Affairs Department, responsible for generating medical content for external customers and internal medical teams as well as assisting with training activities. Reporting to the Associate Director, Medical Communications, and working cross-functionally with Medical Training, Field Medical, and other Medical subteams, a key aspect of this role is developing high quality, easily accessible and clinically relevant material in accordance with Foundation Medicine’s key messages to educate internal teams and external health care providers. This position also works cross-functionally with Commercial partners to ensure accurate pull through of medical messages into promotional efforts. This position brings consistency across all medical communication activities and drives excellence and innovation in these areas. This position may involve occasional travel within the US.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, write and edit scientific and clinical content with an emphasis on scientific accuracy and clarity, keeping the intended audience at the forefront
  • Translate Foundation Medicine research into compelling slides, leave behinds, and/or video content aligned with key messages
  • Create training, FAQs, and objection handling content in response to Medical needs
  • Use Medical and enterprise insights to ensure medical content is up to date and meeting audience needs
  • Collaborate within the Medical Function (Clinical Development, Field Medical, Medical Training, Post-Reporting Services) to identify relevant data and solicit functional expertise to ensure medical content is developed with a high degree of medical integrity, accuracy and clinical relevance
  • Work with cross-functional teams outside of the Medical function (i.e. Commercial, Product, External Communications) to establish mechanisms for sharing content across teams to ensure consistent messaging and accurate communication of medical information and key messages
  • Develop and maintain extensive knowledge of FMI’s products, services, competitive differentiation, and scientific narratives to provide high quality medical communication support
  • Communicate clearly on deliverables and timelines, serving as a key point of contact in Medical Affairs
  • Act as a medical reviewer and approver for promotional and non-promotional content
  • Undertake advanced literature-based research in support of content creation and scheduled updates
  • Upload and review documents in content management systems
  • Collaborate on prioritization, delegation and alignment discussions with vendors with supervision
  • Other projects and duties as periodically assigned
  • Comply with FMI's attendance policies

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in life sciences (genomics/genetics, biology or equivalent) 
  • 3+ years of experience in biotech/pharma/diagnostics, e.g. medical communications, medical education, medical training, or other genomics-related scientific experience 
  • Medical communications agency experience is also acceptable 
  • Deep knowledge of precision oncology, next-generation sequencing, and tumor profiling 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree in Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or closely related field 
  • Direct experience writing and editing medical education and/or training materials in the oncology space 
  • Experience preparing educational content for internal and external audiences 
  • Ability to accurately summarize relevant facts from medical and scientific literature and integrate them into a scientific narrative 
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously 
  • Experience using software platforms such as Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Copilot, SharePoint) and content tools (e.g. Veeva Vault, Showpad, HelpDocs) 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent skills in written communication, oral communication, collaboration, strategy, and problem solving 
  • Understanding of HIPAA and the importance of patient data privacy

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Boston, MA is $118,320 - $147,900 per year. The salary range is commensurate with Foundation Medicine’s compensation practice and considers factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, external market conditions, criticality of role, and internal equity. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for Foundation Medicine's benefits.
