SMX is seeking a Senior Enterprise Solution Architect for our State & Local Government practice. You will own solution design and technical delivery for complex, multi-agency cloud migration, application modernization, AI/ML, and data & analytics engagements. This is a client-facing role with both delivery accountability and business development responsibilities — you’ll work directly with state executives, lead technical teams, mentor engineers, and contribute to proposals and capture efforts. This position is hybrid supporting a Boston, MA based customer.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver enterprise solutions across cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) spanning cloud infrastructure, app modernization, data platforms, and AI/ML.
  • Lead solution architecture from discovery through implementation — produce architecture documents, decision records, and technical governance.
  • Design to regulatory compliance standards including FedRAMP Moderate, HIPAA, CJIS, and IRS Pub 1075.
  • Serve as trusted technical advisor to senior government executives; translate technical decisions into business impact.
  • Partner with PMs to oversee delivery quality and step in on at-risk engagements. Contribute to RFP/RFQ responses — write technical approaches, build solution architectures, develop sales materials.
  • Review and direct work of Cloud Engineers and Developers with coding (mainly Terraform and Python), and cloud configurations.
  • Mentor junior architects and engineers; establish reusable architecture standards across the practice.
  • Navigate multi-agency, multi-vendor environments with competing constraints.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum 15 years in enterprise technology — architecture, engineering, or technical consulting.
  • 7+ years designing and delivering on AWS; working knowledge of Microsoft Azure.
  • 3+ years client-facing solution architect or tech lead role in professional services.
  • Demonstrated experience in regulated environments (FedRAMP Moderate, HIPAA, CJIS, IRS Pub 1075).
  • State and local government experience — procurement cycles, compliance, public-sector IT realities.
  • AI/ML practical experience (Bedrock, SageMaker, or equivalent; generative AI, RAG architectures).
  • Application modernization — legacy to cloud-native (containerization, microservices, API-first).
  • Data & analytics fluency — data lakes, analytics platforms, BI tooling.
  • Strong communication — architecture documentation, executive presentations, proposal writing.
  • Proficiency reviewing Python and Terraform.
  • Multi-vendor delivery coordination (subcontractors, ISVs, client teams).

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • AWS Solutions Architect Professional or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with state agencies such as Health and Human Services, Revenue, Transportation, or Labor and Workforce Development.
  • Medicaid or public benefits program technology experience.
  • Oracle database environments and migration strategies.
  • Appian, ServiceNow, or low-code/BPM platforms in government.
  • Awareness of enterprise data platforms and BI tooling (e.g., Snowflake, Informatica, Tableau) sufficient to architect solutions that incorporate them.

Application Deadline:  5-8-2026
