General Job Description
DealRoom is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to partner closely with a Product Manager and build a product end-to-end while staying hands-on in the code. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you will work hand-in-hand with a Product Manager to understand customer problems, shape technical solutions, and ship software that drives customer and business impact.
This is a builder-leader role, not a people-management role. You'll start as a two-person team with your PM, building hands-on: you set the technical bar, write code regularly, and turn a shared product direction into shipped software. As the product gains traction, this becomes the seed of a team you help grow and lead.
At DealRoom, engineers are builders who think in customer outcomes. You will spend time understanding the people who run M&A deals, turn that understanding into shippable software, and set the pace and quality bar for the product you and your PM own.
Who are we?
DealRoom is a dynamic FinTech innovator revolutionizing the Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) landscape. We're transforming complex financial processes with cutting-edge technology, and we're looking for passionate trailblazers to join our high-energy team. If you thrive on challenges and want to make a tangible impact in finance, DealRoom offers an exhilarating career launchpad. We're not just changing the game – we're redefining it.
Why was DealRoom started?
Founded in 2012 by former M&A advisor Kison Patel, DealRoom addresses technological gaps hindering deal success in the financial industry. With a client-oriented culture, DealRoom has grown to 50+ employees, remains self-funded, and is expanding rapidly. Our growth encompasses both DealRoom's software solutions and the M&A Science Podcast, which recently celebrated its 300th podcast episode!
Core Responsibilities
Partner day-to-day with your PM to learn from customers, shape solutions, and iterate quickly
Stay hands-on: write the code and own the technical execution of your product area
Own technical quality end-to-end through architecture, code review, testing, monitoring, rollback planning, and technical guidance
Adopt AI-native development practices to ship more with a small team
Help define and grow the engineering team as the product scales
What We’re Looking For
5+ years building production systems, with strong backend architecture experience
Experience shipping production SaaS software end-to-end
Strong product sense and a genuine interest in partnering with Product, understanding customer problems directly, and communicating with customers, peers, and leadership rather than leaning on the PM
Clear judgment on when to move fast, when to invest in robustness, and when to simplify
Comfort working across the stack, including frontend, infrastructure, or tooling
High ownership mindset and ability to drive outcomes, not just output
Bonus Experience
Experience leading a team or major technical project
Experience mentoring engineers and reviewing others’ work
Experience with Python, Django, PostgreSQL, TypeScript, Vue, AWS, or similar technologies
Experience shipping AI-powered features
Ability to provide technical direction through architecture, code quality, delivery standards, and clear tradeoffs
Strong judgment on when an LLM is the right tool and when it is not
Why You’ll Thrive Here
You will thrive here if you are a strong engineer who still wants to be in the code. You think like a product person, ask why and for whom before jumping to how, and enjoy turning unclear problems into shipped software.
You are comfortable with ambiguity. You can pick a direction, ship something small, learn from real usage, and adjust.
You lead by example. Your influence comes from the quality of your thinking, the code you write, the standards you set, and the way you help the team deliver.
This Role May Not Be Right For You
This role may not be right if you want to stop coding and mainly manage people or a backlog. It may not be right if you need fully specced tickets before you can make progress, or if you are looking for a people-management role focused on career growth and performance reviews.
It may also not be right if you are uncomfortable shipping small, learning from customers, and improving through iteration, or if you would rather not lean on AI tools as part of how you build.
