POSITION SUMMARY:
The interfaith chaplain will serve on an intermittent schedule in the Spiritual Care department. Ā The ideal candidate will have a flexible schedule and be able to work both in-hospital day shifts as well as on-call shifts at night from home. Ā Interfaith chaplains support the diversity of religious and spiritual practices of the Boston Medical Center - Brightonās patients, family members, staff, and community members. Ā Ā
BMC Brighton is a 300+ bed acute care hospital that includes 38 ICU beds, a level III NICU, two units of inpatient behavioral health, an SUD treatment unit, and a variety of medical and surgical specialties. Ā Part of the Boston Medical Center system, the Brighton campus serves those who live in the Allston-Brighton area as well as from the broader eastern Massachusetts region. Ā Our community includes patients from a wide diversity of ethnicities, socieo-economic statuses, and spiritual traditions.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
JOB RESPONSIBILITIESĀ
Actively rounding and assessing patients on assigned units, whileĀ providingĀ appropriate psycho-social-spiritualĀ support as well as follow-up if neededĀ
Working collaboratively with other members of the Spiritual Care department to provide religion-specific interventions for patients, families, staff, and community membersĀ
Contacting outside clergy and religious communities to support patients and families as neededĀ
Collaborate with the broader team of providers, nursing, social work, case managers, and palliative care to provide holistic care for patients and familiesĀ
Charting patient and family interactions within the electronic medical record (Epic)Ā
Covering the on-call pager from within the hospital (day) or from home (night) as scheduledĀ
Leading spirituality groups on behavioral health units as assignedĀ
Mentoring graduate practicum students working in the departmentĀ and overseeing spiritual care volunteersĀ asĀ neededĀ
Supporting scheduled services for the hospital population (e.g.Ā memorials for staff, bereavement services for families) as well as forĀ specific religious observances (e.g.Ā Catholic mass, Passover, Ramadan) as requestedĀ
JOB REQUIREMENTSĀ
Minimum 40Ā hrsĀ of work towards a graduate degree in Theology/Religion/Philosophy; preference for a completed master's degreeĀ Ā
Minimum of 1Ā unitsĀ of CPE accredited by ACPE; preference 4 unitsĀ Ā
Must have endorsementĀ or be a member in good standing ofĀ a recognized religious body or authority ā ordination is notĀ requiredĀ
Ability to cover on-call regularly from outside the hospital ā requires arrivingĀ at hospital within 30-45 minutes (minus traffic) of callĀ
Ability to work independently and to make decisions based on established policies and procedures.Ā
Ability to support a wide range of religious and spiritual traditions including Catholic, Evangelical Christian,Ā Jewish, Muslim,Ā Buddhist, Hindu, non-theistic, spiritual but not religious, nones;Ā preference for deeperĀ experience with Jewish and/orĀ Muslim spiritual careĀ
Preference for interfaith chaplains who speak Spanish, Haitian Creole, Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian, or Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin)Ā
Compensation Range:
$24.76- $36.06This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
