Job Summary

Manages comprehensive medical nutrition care for patients, including nutrition assessment, development of individualized nutrition care plans, dietary modifications, nutrition education, and activities related to meeting the nutritional needs of the patient population.

Note: Effective January 1, 2024, the minimum degree requirement for eligibility to take the Registration Examination for Dietitians changed from a bachelor's degree to a graduate degree. All other didactic and supervised practice eligibility requirements remain the same. This change does not apply to Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) credentialed prior to January 1, 2024.

Essential Functions
-Assess patients' nutritional needs using clinical data, physician orders, interdisciplinary care plans, and evidence-based practice to develop and implement individualized nutrition care plans.
-Document nutrition assessments, interventions, recommendations, care plans, follow-up evaluations, discharge planning, and other nutrition-related activities in the medical record.
-Provide nutrition counseling and education to patients, families, and caregivers regarding prescribed therapeutic diets and nutrition-related health needs.
-Collaborate with food service staff to ensure appropriate meals, supplements, and nutrition support are provided, and monitor patient menu selections for compliance with prescribed diets.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required or Master's degree in a related field required.

Licenses and Credentials

  • State Dietitian/Nutritionist License required.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN) credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) required.

Experience

  • Completion of an accredited dietetic internship required.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to assess patient needs and apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
