Job Summary

Position Summary

Performs a variety of food preparation, food service, and sanitation duties to support the daily operations of the Food and Nutrition Services Department. Assists with meal preparation and service while providing a welcoming, professional, and customer-focused experience for patients, staff, visitors, and guests. Maintains high standards of food safety, sanitation, cleanliness, and service throughout all assigned areas.

Essential Functions

• Assists cooks and other culinary staff with daily food preparation, meal assembly, and plating according to established recipes, production standards, and portion guidelines.
• Prepares a variety of simple food items, including salads, desserts, sandwiches, and other menu items as assigned.
• Performs basic food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, cutting, slicing, and portioning ingredients.
• Assists with preparing and setting up food and supplies for meal and service periods.
• Provides friendly, professional, and responsive customer service to patients, staff, visitors, and guests.
• Greets customers, takes and fulfills food orders accurately, responds to special requests, and ensures timely delivery of food and beverages.
• Answers questions about menu items and provides assistance or recommendations when appropriate.
• Addresses customer concerns and complaints professionally and promptly, escalating issues to leadership when necessary.
• Maintains clean, organized, and sanitary food service, dining, and work areas throughout the shift.
• Clears tables, removes trash, cleans dining areas, and washes or sanitizes dishes, utensils, and other service items as needed.
• Cleans and sanitizes pots, pans, kitchen equipment, utensils, and food preparation areas in accordance with established standards.
• Follows all food safety, sanitation, infection prevention, and regulatory requirements to ensure food is prepared, handled, stored, and served safely.
• Properly handles food and supplies to prevent contamination and maintain appropriate temperatures and quality standards.
• Works collaboratively with cooks, supervisors, and other Food and Nutrition Services team members to ensure efficient daily operations.
• Demonstrates a positive, respectful, and service-oriented approach when interacting with patients, families, visitors, coworkers, and other members of the care team.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education
Some High School Completed required

Experience
experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities of role 0-1 year required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
- Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to read and write.
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
- Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.
- Knowledge of food service lines set-up and temperature requirements.
- Skill in cooking and preparing a variety of foods.
- Knowledge of food preparation and presentation methods, techniques, and quality standards.
