COORDINATES WITH

Accelerate Digital Agility Planning Team (ADAPT), TIM and other departments as needed

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

This internship provides a practical, hands-on learning opportunity with applied AI, organizational change initiatives, and the use of emerging technologies in a social justice and nonprofit context. The AI and Digital Innovation intern will support coordination, experimentation, and responsible adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) tools and workflows across the organization. Working closely with the ADAPT team, they will help track ongoing AI initiatives, support training and capacity building efforts, and assist integration of practical and ethical AI practices into everyday work. In this role, the intern will document AI experiments, configure and test chatbots and AI-enabled workflows, support staff learning, and help ensure AI initiatives are aligned with Oxfam鈥檚 mission, values, and responsible technology principles.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

AI Initiative Coordination & Tracking
鈥upport coordination of AI Discovery Lab and Study Group
鈥aintain an inventory of ongoing and proposed AI initiatives across teams
鈥rack use cases, pilots, lessons learned, and outcomes of AI experiments within Oxfam and the NGO world.

Responsible AI Experimentation & Tool Testing
鈥upport small pilots and proofs of concept under guidance from the ADAPT team
鈥esearch and experiment with chatbots, generative AI tools, and AI-assisted workflows (e.g., research, communications, analysis, internal processes)
鈥est and evaluate AI tools for usefulness, risks, accessibility, and alignment with organizational values
鈥esearch and help surface risks, limitations, and unintended impacts of AI tools
鈥ssist with documenting responsible AI practices and internal guidelines

Training & Staff Enablement
鈥elp design, coordinate, or support staff training on AI tools and responsible use (including sessions led by the ADAPT team or external partners)
鈥evelop simple guidance materials, job aids, or FAQs for staff learning AI tools
鈥rovide light-touch support to staff experimenting with AI (e.g., office hours, documentation, resource sharing)

Qualifications

EDUCATION

鈥urrent undergraduate student pursuing a degree in computer science, information systems management or related work or equivalent combination of work experience, education, and training.

EXPERIENCE AND CORE COMPETENCIES

鈥emonstrated interest in AI, emerging technologies, and their real-world applications
鈥amiliarity with generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT or similar), chatbots, or AI-assisted workflows
鈥ttention to detail with strong organizational skills
鈥bility to explain technical or complex concepts in clear, accessible language
鈥trong oral and written communication skills
鈥bility to work independently while collaborating across teams
鈥amiliarity with MS Office suite, Windows 11 OS

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

鈥ands-on experience experimenting with AI tools, chatbots, or automation workflows
鈥xperience coordinating projects, tracking initiatives, or maintaining documentation
鈥xposure to training, facilitation, or peer learning (formal or informal)
鈥nderstanding of ethical, responsible, or inclusive technology practices
鈥xperience in a nonprofit, social impact, or mission-driven organization
鈥asic familiarity with data privacy, information security, or digital governance concepts
