Job OverviewĀ Ā
Under the general supervision of a pharmacist, this role performs pharmacy-related functions in compliance with department policies and procedures that provideĀ optimalĀ pharmaceutical care.Ā Ā This roleĀ is responsible forĀ providing pharmacy services, including, but not limited to preparing pharmaceuticals, distributing pharmaceuticals, performing inventory control, compliance audits, financial transactions, providing customer service, andĀ maintainingĀ pharmacy records.Ā Ā This role is also responsible forĀ assistingĀ with ordering, receiving, and inspecting medication and supplies.Ā Ā

1. High school diploma or equivalent.Ā Ā
2. Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).Ā Ā
3. Massachusetts Pharmacy Technician Registration.Ā Ā
4. One (1) year of pharmacy-related experience.Ā Ā

2. Two (2) Years of pharmacy-related experience in a hospital setting.Ā Ā

Ā Ā
1.Ā ParticipatesĀ in non-complex sterile and nonāsterile medication preparation activities including: Preparing oral liquids and other extemporaneous dosage formulations following a master formulary sheets or label; Preparing sterile compounds following a recipe or production instructions.Ā Ā
2.Ā OperatesĀ advanced, automated technology toĀ assistĀ in preparation and documentation of sterile products.Ā Ā
3. Picks medications for automated dispensing cabinet replenishment accurately and with reasonable speed.Ā Ā
4. Completes inventory management activities which include properly securing, storing, andĀ maintainingĀ all required records.Ā Ā
5. Fills floor stock remote orders (i.e., Operating Room, Emergency Room, etc.) accurately (asĀ determinedĀ by pharmacist check).Ā Ā
6.Ā MaintainsĀ storeroom areas assuring that supplies in short supply are ordered and that outdated medication is removed from stock immediately.Ā Ā ReplenishesĀ active stock from back-up stock as needed.Ā Ā
7. Restocks medications into automated dispensing cabinets inĀ appropriate patientĀ care areas accurately andĀ in a timely manner.Ā Ā
8. Manages emergency medication inventory in carts/kits, including ordering andĀ maintainingĀ adequate supply, accurately restocking, organizing to ensure consistent placement and uniformity, documenting medications used for charge purposes, removal of expired/damage products, and performing regular checks on each unit.Ā Ā
9.Ā MaintainsĀ medication rooms by ensuring allĀ appropriate medicationsĀ are stocked in patient specific bins in the automated dispensing cabinets and by removing expired and discontinued medications.Ā Ā
10. Empties return bins in the automated dispensing cabinets as part of the weekly schedule.Ā Ā
11.Ā UtilizesĀ the unit-dose machine to package bulk medications and appropriatelyĀ compoundsĀ non-sterile medications following standard formulas and procedures.Ā Ā
12. Performs assigned cycle counts of the carousel on a regular basis, maintaining adequate records of completion.Ā Ā
13. Takes accountability for medication management in their assigned patient care area.Ā Ā
14. Assists in keeping the Pharmacy neat and clean by caring for equipment and cleaning after compounding prescriptions, manufacturing bulk medications, unit dosing,Ā etc.Ā Ā Ā Ā
15. Conduct temperature inspections of the refrigerator in the automated dispensing machine.Ā Ā
16. Performs financial transaction activities which may include: Preparing patient billing information; billing third party prescription benefits; Troubleshoots insurance issues; and selects and uses pharmacy pay codes, payers and plansĀ appropriate toĀ each type of transaction.Ā Ā
17. Inspects assigned medication storage areas monthlyĀ maintainingĀ adequate records of inspection.Ā Ā All assigned areas must be inspected every month to meetĀ standard.Ā Ā
18. Greets andĀ assistsĀ customers upon arrival to the pharmacy.Ā Ā Participates inĀ point of saleĀ cash transactions. Engages in customer services activities.Ā Ā
19. Provides customer or patientĀ assistanceĀ over the phone.Ā Ā Triage calls asĀ appropriate.Ā Ā
20. All assigned work is completed accurately by the end of eachĀ shiftĀ and all necessary quality control paperwork is completed accurately and with reasonable speed.Ā Ā
21. Communicates effectively with nursing, physicians, and ancillary services to meet the needs of these departments andĀ maintainsĀ a positive working relationship and image of the pharmacy department.Ā Ā
22. Maintains collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the workingĀ groupsĀ achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment.Ā Ā

Physical Requirements:Ā Ā Ā
1. Ability to walk and stand 90% of the day and to occasionallyĀ lift upĀ to 30 lbs.Ā Ā
2. Frequent reaching and grasping below, at, and above shoulder level.Ā Ā
3. Pushing and/or pushing non-motorized equipment (e.g.Ā carts, IV rolling rack, and medication rolling racks, etc.) weighing 40 to 60 lbs.Ā Ā
4. Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation toĀ operateĀ prescription medications and computer keyboard.Ā Ā
5. Ability to see medications, computerĀ screen, and reports.Ā Ā
6. Reading automated dispensing reports regularly.Ā Ā
7. Works in an area with some discomfort due to dust, dirt, and temperature changes.Ā Ā Ā
8. May be exposed to broken glass andĀ some exposureĀ to hazardous chemicals.Ā Ā
