Community Servings' mission is to actively engage the community to provide medically tailored, nutritious, scratch-made meals and medically tailored groceries to chronically and critically ill individuals and their families. In addition, we are committed to prioritizing racial and economic justice and health equity in all our programs and business practices. 


We are a dynamic and fast-growing agency at the forefront of the "Food is Medicine" field, providing over 1M medically tailored meals annually to clients and their families experiencing illness and food insecurity in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In addition, our work strongly focuses on supporting the regional local food system, delivering high-quality nutrition education to the community, and hosting an on-site food-service workforce development program. Over the past 35 years, the agency has provided 15M+ free, scratch-made meals.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Prepare ingredients for recipes.
  • Execute recipes for entrées, soups, salads, bakery, sides and supplemental nutrition items.
  • Engage with and direct volunteers in a task.
  • Actively communicate progress and needs to supervisor and team members.
  • Take responsibility for assigned tasks and ensure timely completion.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of equipment and work and storage areas.
  • Champion teamwork through words and actions and seek ways to support teammates.
  • Other tasks as assigned.



Qualifications

  • Proper product storage/labeling/rotation
  • Ingredient identification and processing knowledge
  • RTE food handling practices
  • Raw ingredient handling practices
  • Proper knife handling skills
  • Knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment use and cleaning.
  • Daily maintenance of work and storage areas
  • Monitor temperatures and timing of prepared foods.
  • Able to understand menu and recipes.
  • Able to work independently and in teams.
  • Able to work in the dish room as needed.


Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 
  • Culinary training or coursework in food preparation, nutrition, or a related field is a plus. 
  • One to three years of experience in a commercial kitchen, institutional food service, restaurant, healthcare, or nonprofit food production environment preferred. 
  • ServSafe Food Handler certification preferred or must be obtained within a specified period after hire.

This position requires an individual to have the ability to lift to a maximum of 50 lbs. and includes bending and standing for long periods of time. The incumbent must maintain skills necessary to safely and efficiently operate the following equipment and machines used in the performance of this job: kitchen equipment (i.e., oven, kettle, skillet, stove, dishwasher, slicer, coffee machine, steamer, mixer, and chef knives) .
