Summary

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will work in one of FIRST RF's five technologies divisions to investigate customer needs, design prototypes, and build products that require both creativity and attention to detail. These cutting-edge technologies include phased-array systems, millimeter wave active antennas, and advanced signal detection technologies designed for both government and commercial customers.

Qualifications


Required Education and Experience

  • Must have US Citizenship and ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance
  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Must have 5+ years of relevant mechanical design experience
  • Experience with electronic packaging for high reliability environments for relevant DoD and Aerospace platforms 
  • Extensive experience with ASME Y14.5M-2009 and GD&T
  • Extensive experience with mechanical fabrication techniques for complex geometries including machining, sheet metal, and composites
  • Experience with MIL-STD-810 and/or DO-160 specifications and test methods
  • Experience with mentoring more junior engineers and providing technical review
  • Proficiency with mechanical CAD tools (SolidWorks a plus)
  • Hands-on experience in a multidiscipline hardware development environment
  • Strong analytical and hardware troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to peers, management, and customers
  • A desire to find, explore, and solve new and challenging problems
  • Comfortable in a lab environment
  • A resiliency to fail fast and often

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks
  • Experience with DoD applications and platforms
  • Design for high temperature environments
  • Proficiency in a technical programming language such as Matlab or Python
  • Experience with the technical aspects of new business capture, including concept development, requirements analysis, and new customer interaction
  • Experience with taking a leadership role in technical development teams

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position at 40 hours per week. Typical office hours include Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm; however, these hours may vary based on workload and the manager's discretion.

Travel

About 10% travel is expected for this position.
