Overview

The Outpatient Pharmacist will oversee the daily operations of Riverside Healthcare's retail specialty pharmacy. This role is responsible for ensuring the accurate dispensing of specialty medications, compliance with all regulatory requirements, and providing expert pharmaceutical care to patients. The pharmacist will work collaboratively will other pharmacy professionals, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and customer service while optimizing the efficiency and profitability of the pharmacy. Additionally, this position requires flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure. As a salaried professional, you may be expected to work above your FTE.

 

Schedule Requirements/Projected Workflow:

  • Four 10-hour shifts
    • Tuesday: 9:00am - 7:00pm
    • Wednesday: 9:00am - 7:00pm
    • Thursday: 9:00am - 7:00pm
    • Friday: 7:00am - 5:00pm

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Pharmacy Operations:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the retail specialty pharmacy, including prescription processing, medication dispensing, inventory management, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

Patient Care:

  • Provide clinical expertise in specialty medications, counseling patients on proper medication use, side effects, and adherence to strategies.
  • Ensure that patients receive individualized pharmaceutical care plans tailored to their specific needs.

Leadership:

  • Supervise, train, and mentor pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support personnel.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment focused on patient-centered care.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensures that the standard of pharmacy practice consistently meets or exceeds legal and professional Standards of Care.
  • Complies with states and federal drug laws as regulated by the State Board of Pharmacy, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Food and Drug Administration, URAC and ACHC accrediting bodies for Specialty pharmacy.

Quality Assurance:

  • Implement and monitor quality assurance programs to ensure the safe, accurate, and efficient delivery of specialty pharmacy services.
  • Conduct regular audits and implement corrective actions as needed.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other healthcare providers, including physicians, nurses, and case managers, to ensure the seamless coordination of care for patients receiving specialty medications.

Financial Management:

  • Optimize revenue through effective inventory management and reimbursement strategies.

Customer Service:

  • Ensure that all patients and customers receive prompt, professional, and courteous service.
  • Address and resolve customer concerns and complaints promptly.

Nonessential job duties:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of marketing strategies to promote the specialty pharmacy services.
  • Participate in community outreach programs and health fairs to educate the public on specialty medications and pharmacy services.
  • Provide educational presentations to staff and other healthcare professionals on the latest advancements in specialty pharmacy.

Responsibilities

Required Experience:

  • None

Preferred Experience:

  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a retail or specialty pharmacy setting.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role is preferred.

Required Licensure/Education:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited college of pharmacy
  • Current and unrestricted pharmacist license in the state of Illinois.

Preferred Licensure/Education:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Masters or certification in leadership preferred.

Vision: Needed to read measured amounts of drugs, assist in proper medication identification, computer entry, read memos and literature, operation within the clinic.

Smell: Needed for electrical/fire safety

Hearing: Needed for telephone communication, meetings and listening to employees and patients.

Touch: Needed for writing, computer entry, filing, manipulate equipment /tools
