Traveling Fitter/Welder

Description

Tradesmen International is immediately hiring experienced Bridge Fabrication Structural Fitters/Welders for projects located in the Olean, NY area. This is a second shift opportunity, and the pay rate is $45/hour plus $125/day per diem for Travelers 60+ miles from the job site. Per diem is paid all 7 days of the week if you work the full schedule. Job Scope:       

• Fit and assemble structural bridge components in a fabrication shop environment
• Read blueprints and WPS sheets to lay out and fit beams, plate girders, stiffeners, diaphragms, splice plates, and other structural members
• Measure, mark, and align heavy steel to required tolerances prior to welding
• Use fitting tools such as clamps, wedges, strongbacks, chain falls, and come-alongs to position components for weld-out
• Verify joint prep, alignment, and fit-up before welding operations begin

Requirements

• Minimum of 10 years welding experience in a bridge fabrication shop
• Extensive experience fitting heavy structural steel used in bridge construction
• Ability to perform precise layout and fit-up directly from blueprints and WPS sheets
• Execute welds in compliance with AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code standards
• Pass on-site 3G FCAW weld test subject to bend and X-ray inspection to meet NYS DOT requirements
• Ability to read and work from blueprints and WPS sheets with minimal supervision
• Experience with multi-pass welding on heavy plate and structural members
• Ability to consistently maintain weld quality that meets visual and NYS DOT requirements
