Position Overview
Birch Agency is seeking a dedicated and professional Sign Language Interpreter to support students in a school-based setting in Boydton, Virginia. This opportunity allows interpreters to play a meaningful role in supporting communication access and educational success for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about fostering inclusive learning environments and collaborating with educational teams to ensure students receive equal access to classroom instruction, activities, and services.
Key Responsibilities
Provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for students in classroom instruction, school activities, meetings, and related educational settings.
Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, staff, peers, and families as appropriate.
Support student access to academic content and classroom participation.
Interpret in a variety of educational settings including individual, small group, and classroom environments.
Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and administrators to support student success.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in accordance with educational and ethical standards.
Assist with promoting an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Maintain accurate service documentation as required by the district.
Qualifications
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) required.
Educational interpreting experience preferred.
Relevant interpreting certification preferred (RID, EIPA, or state-specific credentials if applicable).
Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary educational team.
Knowledge of educational terminology and school-based environments preferred.
Work Environment
School-based setting supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Collaborative environment with support from educators, administrators, and related service providers.
