The Development Planner is responsible for evaluating and advancing prospective land and development opportunities through property due diligence, feasibility analysis, test fits, zoning and land-use review, permitting coordination, pre-construction planning, budgeting, and project inception activities. Working closely with clients, consultants, municipal officials, and internal project teams, the Development Planner analyzes site constraints, regulatory requirements, and project feasibility while coordinating approvals and managing multiple projects simultaneously. This role serves as a key liaison among stakeholders to help advance projects efficiently from concept through pre-construction while supporting project schedules, budgets, and overall development objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

  • Coordinate pre-construction activities including coordinating efforts of work performed by the design team, evaluating design solutions, and supporting project implementation.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of constructability and complex design considerations.
  • Analyze designs for feasibility and identify potential risks or constraints.
  • Assist in evaluating prospective development and land acquisition opportunities.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and submit proposal packages. 
  • Appear before town boards and municipal agencies to support zoning and permitting approvals.
  • Support business development efforts by assisting with client pursuits and relationship management.
  • Work with clients during project planning and inception stages.
  • Assist in developing project budgets and feasibility analyses.
  • Assist in establishing project parameters, goals, and objectives.
  • Attend weekly construction and project coordination meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Planning, Engineering or other applicable field 
  • 3-6 years of architecture, planning production and development experience, preferably with commercial projects
  • Licenses: Professional Registration not required
  • Must possess working knowledge of permitting, zoning regulation and processes
  • Thorough knowledge of construction costs, estimating, budgeting and engineering principals and techniques
  • Knowledge of various construction methods and materials and installation procedures as necessary
  • Computer literacy required with Microsoft Office suite preferred. Proficiency in Excel, Word and Microsoft Project is essential. AutoCAD helpful
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with clients, designers, employees, subcontractors, and all project personnel
