Ergon Inc. seeks a full-time Environmental Excellence Engineer to join our Operational Excellence Team.
The Corporate Environmental Excellence Engineer is responsible for providing enterprise-wide environmental oversight and driving continuous improvement across Ergon's operating companies. This role ensures environmental compliance, strengthens environmental management systems, advances operational excellence and environmental performance initiatives, and supports a culture of environmental excellence through technical leadership, governance, and collaboration.
The position serves as a subject-matter expert and trusted advisor to operations, corporate leadership, and business-unit environmental teams, balancing regulatory compliance, risk reduction, operational efficiency, and long-term environmental stewardship.
Educations and Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or Geology from an accredited university in a related field is required.
- Advanced degree preferred.
- 10 + years of experience in environmental management or compliance within an industrial, manufacturing, or energy-related environment. Working knowledge of environmental regulations related to air, water, waste, and spill prevention. Experience working with regulatory agencies and managing inspections.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Environmental Governance & Oversight
- Provide corporate-level oversight of environmental programs, performance, and compliance across Ergon operating sites.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve environmental policies, standards, and best practices aligned with regulatory requirements and Ergon values.
- Ensure consistent implementation of environmental management systems across the enterprise.
- Support internal and external environmental audits/assessments and track corrective and preventive actions to closure.
Continuous Improvement & Performance Excellence
- Identify opportunities for environmental performance improvement, risk reduction, and cost efficiency.
- Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives related to emissions, waste, water, energy, and resource management.
- Analyze environmental performance metrics and trends; develop dashboards and reports for leadership review.
- Benchmark Ergon's environmental practices against industry standards and peers.
Technical & Regulatory Support
- Serve as a technical resource on federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Support operating companies with permitting strategies, regulatory interpretations, and compliance solutions.
- Assist with environmental risk assessments, management of change reviews, and capital project evaluations.
- Collaborate with Regulatory Advisor to provide guidance on emerging environmental regulations and potential business impacts.
Collaboration & Culture
- Partner with site environmental, operations, engineering, and environmental teams to drive alignment and shared accountability.
- Support training and awareness initiatives to strengthen environmental knowledge and ownership across the organization.
- Foster a proactive, prevention-focused environmental culture that integrates environmental excellence into daily operations.
Strategic Initiatives & Sustainability
- Support corporate sustainability and environmental performance initiatives as assigned.
- Contribute technical expertise to long-range planning, acquisitions, and due diligence activities.
- Assist with the development of environmental goals, targets, and strategic road maps.
