POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Performs various duties involving minor repairs of equipment, furniture, walls, etc. and maintenance surveillance rounds throughout the hospital - Records gauge readings, observes general operating conditions etc., of boilers and auxiliary equipment, kitchen equipment, etc. Notes abnormalities in equipment operation, takes corrective action and/or calls for additional assistance as needed. 


DEPARTMENT SCOPE OF SERVICE:

The Plant Services Department is responsible for the maintenance and operational functions including, but not limited to, safety, and fire prevention/protection, telecommunications, hazardous waste disposal, equipment management, loss prevention management, grounds maintenance, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and power plant systems (boiler) for the 61-bed hospital; 15 acres of grounds, 12 houses and 1 truck and 1 van. Responsible for MSDS, hazardous communications, plus two Medical Office Buildings.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Performs a wide range of non-technical preventive maintenance and repairs for assigned facility and/or department to include basic plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilating, and/or air conditioning services.
  •  May be required to perform tasks of the other trades, such as a light equipment operator, carpenter, painter and/or locksmith.
  •  Adheres to policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure compliance and patient safety.
  •  Prepares and maintains logs, records and charts.
  •  Provides emergency maintenance as requested.
  •  Maintains work area to ensure a clean and safe environment. Adheres to safety requirements as required.
  •  Participates and attends departmental meetings and training. Maintains licensure as required.
  •  Takes ownership of assignments; other duties as assigned or requested.
  •  Communicates and listens effectively with internal and external customers; effectively understands instructions and shares knowledge.
  •  Cooperates and interacts with supervisors, peers, other departments, and all customer groups demonstrating our commitment to “service”.
  •  Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Education:

  • High School Education or Equivalency preferred.

Experience:

  • 2 or more years in a maintenance role is preferred. 
  • 1 or more years of healthcare facility experience is preferred.

OSHA CATEGORY:

OSHA Category I: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues require use of techniques of Universal Precautions as evidenced with blood borne pathogens standards.

This position requires that weight be lifted or force be exerted.

In compliance with Vermont Act 155, Brattleboro Memorial Hospital provides the compensation range for this position in good faith. The listed range represents the pay scale reasonably expected for a successful candidate based on factors such as relevant experience, education, internal equity, and market competitiveness. Final compensation will be determined during the hiring process.
