Job Summary: Assists pharmacist in the procurement, preparation, dispensing, monitoring and delivering of medications. Helps maintain records and drug inventories. Collects and enters patient medication history information into the medical record.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
2. Competent math and communication skills.
3. Certified by a national pharmacy technician certification authority.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Prior pharmacy experience.
2. Post-secondary education or degree.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core Competencies
Accesses pharmacy computer system and automated dispensing system to navigate and use necessary applications.
Accurately selects and prepares medication from automated dispensing cabinet restock reports. Accurately documents quantity and beyond use date on the restock list.
Enters medication charges/credits accurately.
Maintains perpetual inventory of controlled substances. Documents receiving, dispensing, and removal of outdates, for all controlled substances, and files documents appropriately.
Repackages medication from bulk to unit-dose packages utilizing various methods. Maintains proper repackaging documentation and assures repackaging is checked by pharmacist before dispensing.
Responsible for:
ď‚·Accurately and efficiently restocking/loading medications into the automated dispensing cabinets.
ď‚·Picking up medications when cabinets cleaned of stocked medications without active orders.
Checking supply of patient’s bulk and own medications that have been identified and approved for use.
ď‚·Emptying return bin and verifying controlled substance documentation.
ď‚·Restocking pharmacy supplies on the units.
ď‚·Assisting in the collection of patient medication history information.
Maintains stock levels of pharmaceutical products and supplies in Pharmacy. Reorders supplies and pharmaceuticals as needed. Checks cost for contract pricing or lower pricing/generic availability, consults with pharmacist for product selection.
Maintains and organizes sample closet in the outpatient clinic, including checking and removing outdates.
Checks in orders or supplies. Identifies order error, shortages, discrepancies, short dating. Processes returns for usable pharmaceuticals in a timely fashion.
Removes outdated, deteriorated, and unusable medication in pharmacy area, automated dispensing cabinets and medication rooms in a timely manner. Properly segregates outdated drugs and hazardous waste.
Works with contracted agency to obtain credits for returnable drugs and to dispose of outdated/ unusable drugs. Maintains and consolidates records.
Maintains workstation in a neat, clean and orderly condition.
Processes patient’s own meds for storage or disposition. Utilizes resources to identify drugs. Consults with pharmacist as needed.
Maintains and files various records, including invoices, controlled substance records and computer reports.
Inspects medication storage areas, and emergency drugs per policy every month as assigned. Cleans automated dispensing cabinets quarterly.
Assists in Drug Usage Evaluation and Performance Improvement process as requested.
Follows all state and federal laws as pertaining to the practice of pharmacy by a pharmacy technician. Maintains Pharmacy Technician certification by a national pharmacy technician certification authority. Maintains State licensure/ registration.
Alternating 7:30am to 4pm and 10:30am to 7pm shifts
40 hours/ week
