BRIEF SUMMARY: Provides and supervises support staff in the provision of treatment for physical therapy services.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Participates in activities in the Department.
    1. Assists in scheduling patients for treatment and evaluations.
    2. Participates in the preparation of reports and records of department personnel.
    3. Assists in maintaining inventory of materials and supplies for the Department.
  2. Evaluations
    1. Performs a complete evaluation of all assigned patients.
    2. Completes reports to the referring physician of all assigned patients.
  3. Treatment
    1. Practices Physical Therapy consistent with the American Physical Therapy Association Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
    2. Maintains a patient treatment schedule consistent with the needs of the department/facility.
    3. Confers with the person(s) most closely associated and keeps them informed of any additional patient needs, treatment modification and/or progress.
    4. Treats patients of all ages (infants, children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics, races, creeds, genders, and disabilities) without bias or prejudice.
  4. Records and Reports
    1. Responsible for the preparation and submitting of department/facility reports, ensuring confidentiality of all records, including evaluation reports, discharge summaries, progress reports of referring physicians and agencies, current progress notes on all patients, special reports requested by the supervising therapist or the manager.

 

OTHER REPONSIBILITIES:

1.         Meetings and Conferences

  1. Attends department/facility meetings, as assigned by the supervising therapist or the manager.
  2. Professional Status and Public Relations
  3. Keeps abreast of new techniques and trends in the field of Physical Therapy.
  4. Attends conventions, meetings or special courses whenever possible and shares with department/facility personnel information gained there.
  5. Prepares and gives talks to community groups who have made requests for same.
  6. Maintains good public relations with all community sources.
  7. Mandatory attendance to annual continuing education course.

 

  1. Planning
  1. Assists the supervising therapist and the manager in planning any new programs to be developed within the department/facility.
  1. Policies and Procedures
  1. Keeps current and adheres to policies and procedures as enumerated in the policy and procedure manual.
  2. Assists the supervising therapist or the manager with the revision of any procedures as necessary.
  1. Supervises licensed physical therapy assistants, aides and student observers.
  2. Actively participates in the overall organization-wide/department performance improvement plans.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

 

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE: 

  1. Must be a graduate of an accredited physical therapy school in the United States or a foreign school approved by the California Board of Physical Therapy.

 

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED: 

  1. Must have current Physical Therapist license issued by the State of California.
  2. Must have current CPR certification.

Newborn     Infant/Pediatric      Adolescent      Adult      Geriatric     All      No Patient Care           

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have good physical stamina; fairly strong and energetic and able to tolerate much walking, standing, writing, stooping, carrying, talking, seeing, bending, and handling; have color vision, speed and a healthy back; able to be on feet most of the day.  Works inside normal temperature conditions with adequate light, in a well ventilated, clean area.  Some areas are limited in space, usually will work around others; must expect some moderate noise.
