JOB DESCRIPTION
The Construction Estimator is responsible for developing accurate, detailed, and competitive cost estimates for a wide range of general contracting projects, including ground-up construction and tenant improvements.
This role is critical to the preconstruction process, leading bid efforts, coordinating subcontractor pricing, preparing budgets, and ensuring a seamless transition to project execution.
The ideal candidate has strong general contracting experience, along with working knowledge of electrical systems, EV charging infrastructure, civil work, and utility coordination. Success in this role requires strong collaboration skills across cross-functional teams, including international partners.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review project drawings, specifications, and bid documents to fully understand scope across all tradesÂ
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and prepare cost estimates for labor, materials, and equipmentÂ
- Develop estimates for structural, civil, architectural, and MEP scopesÂ
- Coordinate with utilities to account for power requirements, service upgrades, and utility-driven scopeÂ
- Manage bid invitations through platforms such as BuildingConnected and PlanHubÂ
- Solicit, track, and level subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure full scope coverageÂ
- Assemble comprehensive bid packages for internal review and client submissionÂ
- Partner with Business Development to produce complete and competitive proposalsÂ
- Prepare detailed cost breakdowns by trade, system, and project phaseÂ
- Identify scope gaps, overlaps, and value engineering opportunitiesÂ
- Support budget development and cost forecasting in coordination with finance teamsÂ
- Lead or support project handoff meetings with clients and internal teamsÂ
- Ensure smooth transition from estimating to operations, including scope and budget alignmentÂ
- Participate in post-project reviews to evaluate estimate accuracy and cost performanceÂ
- Support Project Managers with change order pricing and cost analysisÂ
- Maintain and improve internal cost databases (unit pricing, square-foot benchmarks, etc.)Â
- Collaborate with teams across multiple offices, including international teamsÂ
- Develop and refine estimating tools, templates, and historical benchmarksÂ
- Attend pre-bid meetings, job walks, and client meetings as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of construction estimating experience with a general contractorÂ
- Proven experience with:Â
- Ground-up construction and tenant improvements (TI)Â
- Full-scope, multi-trade estimatingÂ
- Excavation and site/civil workÂ
- Working knowledge of electrical systems and EV charging infrastructureÂ
- Experience with utility coordination (e.g., SCE, SDG&E, or similar providers)Â
- Understanding of utility requirements, interconnection processes, and long-lead itemsÂ
- Experience managing the full bid lifecycle using bid platformsÂ
- Demonstrated ability to solicit subcontractor bids and assemble bid packagesÂ
- Ability to produce detailed, itemized cost breakdownsÂ
- Experience developing project budgets and collaborating with finance teamsÂ
- Experience supporting or leading project handoff meetings and change order processesÂ
- Strong communication skills across distributed and cross-functional teamsÂ

- Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred, not required)Â
