SUMMARY: The Project Engineer provides project management, estimating, and administrative support to Service Project Managers and Estimators to ensure the successful execution of service-related electrical projects. This role focuses on coordination, documentation control, pricing support, scheduling assistance, and communication between internal teams, field personnel, subcontractors, and vendors. The Project Engineer does not act as a field electrician, foreman, or superintendent, but serves as a critical support role enabling efficient project delivery, accuracy, and risk management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project & PM Support
- Assist Project Managers with the planning and execution of service projects, including schedule development based on estimated hours, electrical scope, project milestones, and resource constraints.
- Provide day-to-day project coordination support between Project Managers, Estimators, field personnel, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Attend project meetings on behalf of the Project Manager when requested and document action items and follow-ups.
- Assist with project closeout activities, including punch list coordination and documentation tracking.
Estimating & Scope Development
- Assist in the development of project estimates and proposals under the direction of a Project Manager or Estimator.
- Review RFPs and RFQs and extract pertinent scope, schedule, and risk information to support estimate development.
- Develop and refine Scope of Work documents, including inclusions, clarifications, and exclusions, to protect Baker Electric from scope gaps and risk exposure.
- Assist in pricing and documentation of change orders and extra work tickets generated by the field.
RFIs, Submittals & Documentation
- Review RFIs generated by field personnel for completeness and accuracy.
- Answer RFIs that can be resolved internally by checking drawings and specifications; route others to the appropriate design professional.
- Review supplier and subcontractor submittals and shop drawings for conformance with project requirements.
- Track submittals and approvals to ensure project schedules are maintained.
Procurement & Vendor Coordination
- Manage procurement for light fixtures, switchgear, and major material packages under Project Manager direction.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of complete material packages.
- Track lead times and escalation items and communicate risks to the Project Manager.
Scheduling & Coordination
- Coordinate Tier-Subcontractor scheduling with Baker Electric field leadership.
- Communicate schedule milestones to subcontractors and suppliers and assist in resolving conflicts.
- Support pre-job walks by developing preliminary material lists and documenting site conditions that may impact cost, schedule, or execution.
Continuous Improvement
- Assist in identifying value engineering, pre-fabrication, and efficiency opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Manager, Estimator, or Director of Operations.
- Perform overtime work when required to support operational and project needs.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1–3 years of experience in a project engineer, project coordination, estimating, or construction support role.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
- Electrical construction experience (office or field exposure).
- Experience with Accubid or similar estimating platforms.
- PMP, CPM, or CPE certification (or progress toward certification).

The starting salary for this opportunity range is listed. Other rewards may include annual bonus eligibility based on company and individual performance, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards.
