This role is part of our Space and Launch business, which has contributed to the nation’s space programs for decades by delivering complete solutions from concept to flight. We enable successful space operations with mission-critical technology supporting every step from first launch to final landing, including launch vehicle subsystems, propulsion systems, aerodynamic and interstage systems, and payload protection and deployment. Our high-performance solutions are engineered to operate in the most extreme environments and meet precise mission requirements.
In this role, you operate vertical turning lathe (VTL) computer numerical control (CNC) machines to support efficient production of high‑precision hardware. You prepare tooling and materials, coordinate with programmers and management to maintain workflow, and uphold quality management system (QMS) requirements to ensure product conformity and safety.

Responsibilities
- Maintains AS9100 procedures and supports continuous improvement initiatives.
- Keeps the work area clean, organized, and aligned with safety expectations.
- Performs general CNC machine cleaning and maintenance.
- Maintains and stores machine fixtures properly.
- Works with management to prioritize the machine schedule.
- Collaborates with programmers to minimize setup and production time.
- Orders cutters and tooling required for manufacturing.
- Operates CNC machinery to produce components.
- Reports quality or time‑management concerns to management.
- Understands how customer products are impacted in the event of failure and adheres to product safety expectations.
- Performs other duties as required.
Required Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication abilities, with the ability to work effectively with all levels of management.
- Experience with Siemens 840D and Fanuc 31i‑B5 controls.
- Excellent blueprint interpretation skills.
- Thorough understanding of machine setups, tooling, and cutters.
- Ability to communicate directly with internal customers.
- Training in applicable changes and customer requirements.
- Knowledge of basic QMS reporting, record keeping, and instruction following.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Adequate years of CNC operating experience as determined by Karman.
Physical Requirements
- Constant standing, walking, or sitting for at least 8 hours.
- Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting, or carrying up to 50 pounds, minimum 35 pounds.
- Sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a keyboard and other equipment.
- Clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches or less; corrective lenses may be worn.
- Prolonged repetitive movements.
- Constant holding, grasping, turning, or similar hand operations.
- Occasional reaching overhead, at shoulder level, and below shoulder level. The essential functions of this position must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
