A Brief Summary of This Position
The Saw Operator III position is an individual contributor. This person must be a highly driven individual that will polish, grind, and process material in accordance with shop drawings through the use of designated machines.
For example: Saw, press, saws, manual drill presses, cutting torch, & grinder.
Evenings 2nd Shift Standard Schedule: Monday - Friday 3PM - 11PM*
*As needed, there will be work hours required outside the Standard Shift Schedule (above)
Starting Hourly Pay Rate (LG6): $24.47 + $1.00 per hour shift differential**
**Shift differential is paid when the hours worked are on an eligible shift
Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year and 2 years
Eligible for annual discretionary bonus
Essential Functions
Set up and operate a saw to cut shafts per blueprint to meet customer requirements
Operate a forklift as needed to transfer material and deliver product
Operate ironworker, press, saws, manual drill presses, cutting torch, & grinder as needed
Use measuring instruments, such as protractor, framing square, tape measure, tri-square, center finder, angle finder, levels, scribes, calipers, and drill gauges to fabricate various products of the unit
Understand material requirements and specifications as stated on blueprints and drawings
Decide through the use of learned solutions the sequence of set ups, operations, and processes within the limitations of recognized methods and procedures for completing work in process according to work schedules and constraint and shipping buffers.
Operate a hand-held grinder to finish small part components
Load machine programs, as needed, specific to product orders
Process material in accordance with shop drawings through the use of designated machines
Troubleshoot causes of operating errors and determine possible resolutions
Maintain material traceability
Perform tasks according to production needs to minimize downtime
Determine machine maintenance needs and perform light maintenance, as needed
Other duties as required and/or assigned
Important Details about the Role
Setup, operate, and perform general maintenance of equipment without difficulty
Make mathematical calculations in preparing product or setting up the machinery for specific parts
The employee must maintain a safe and productive work environment producing a quality product which is shipped complete and on time to satisfy the needs of the customer
This position reports to the Production Supervisor
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Ability to make mathematical calculations in preparing product or setting up the machinery
Must be able to read, understand and use a standard and O.D. tape measure, micrometer, protractor
Strong hands-on working knowledge operating machines
Ability to read and understand blueprints/shop drawings
Must have a high awareness for safety at all times
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Five (5) + years of previous experience operating machines in heavy/fast paced manufacturing environment (For example: Drill, Lathe Press, Saw, Stretcher, Tapering)
Exhibits strong mechanical knowledge
Working Conditions & Physical Efforts:
The job is performed in an indoor shop environment. The temperature range can be from 100 degrees in the summer to about 50 degrees in the winter. Most operations may expose employee to some type of disagreeable working conditions (wind, cold, heat, dust, dirt, fumes, noise, vibration, water, or oil). Working conditions may vary with specific work assignments. Exposure to electrical hazards, grease, loud noises, and outside elements occur continually or regularly. Extreme care should be taken to prevent damage to equipment or department personnel in the area of operations especially when performing setups. The job requires safety glasses, hearing protection, and metatarsal safety shoes be worn at all times. The employee must be able to spend the entire work shift on their feet within the shop environment. The incumbent must also be able to wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) for working in the production facility.
Hazards:
This job requires handling metal objects some of which have sharp edges. Extreme care and awareness should be taken for all production jobs. Below are some common hazards that exist for this particular position. Set up and run of equipment provides the potential for injury through slips, falls, strains, pinch points, tripping hazards, shot blasting equipment, high pressure air nozzles, material handling equipment.
