St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport has more than 3,200 employees. It includes a 473-bed community teaching hospital, a 76-bed inpatient psychiatric facility in Westport, a large multispecialty provider group, and special needs services for adults and children. St. Vincent’s is the first hospital in Fairfield County to be integrated into the Hartford HealthCare network, and is the system’s second-largest hospital.

Job Summary:  Oversees all day to day departmental operations. This includes managing shift scheduling/staffing, overtime, inspection of personnel, responding to emergency incidents and keeping the Director informed of all critical matters.

Basic Responsibilities:

  • Manage shift supervisors and assign responsibilities and tasks to support department operations
  • Manage deployment of resources to ensure safe, adequate staffing
  • Oversee departmental overtime spending
  • Budgetary responsibility for police and outside security services
  • Manage department budget for uniforms, equipment, and accessories
  • Ensure daily huddles are being conducted by supervisors and information is shared effectively
  • Work with supervisors to conduct inspections of personnel ensuring all are properly uniformed and equipped to perform their duties
  • Provide guidance and coaching to shift supervisors
  • Working in conjunction with the Director and HR, investigates and handles complaints, instances of policy violations or wrongdoing and provides thorough documentation and recommendations    
  • Work closely with Administrative Manager to meet all department goals and expectations
  • Establish effective working relationships with Managers in other departments to facilitate information sharing and proactive problem solving
  • Work closely with Director, sharing all important information and collaborating on formation and implementation of policies and procedures to achieve maximum department effectiveness
  • Serve as acting Director in the Directors absence
  • Responsible for developing and delivering emergency training
  • Foster and maintain effective relationships with emergency service partners throughout the region

  • Conducts physical security assessments, threat assessments, and safety training


Required Credential(s):

  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP)
  • Professional Certified Investigator (PCI)
  • Physical Security Professional (PSP)
  • Memberships in relevant professional organizations (Ex: IACP, ASIS, CPI)
  • Valid State of CT Driver’s License

Work Experience:

  • 5 years Public Safety related experience
  • 3-5 years Supervisor/Manager experience
  • Prior law enforcement and/or military experience preferred

Language Skills:  Ability to read, write, speak and understand; Bi-lingual beneficial

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements 

  • Experience in emergency management
  • Experience directly training and facilitating programs for a variety of audiences
  • Ability to develop change and communicate strategies and plans
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
