Position Summary:
 

The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing advanced accounting functions, including the preparation and review of journal entries, maintenance of the general ledger, and support of accurate and timely financial reporting. This role maintains strict confidentiality and the integrity of financial data through regular reconciliations and adherence to accounting standards and organizational policies.

The Senior Accountant assists with the preparation of financial statements, analyzes account activity, and supports month-end and year-end close processes. Additionally, this position provides limited oversight and support in budget monitoring and grant accounting, ensuring compliance with applicable HUD guidelines and reporting requirements. 

Key Duties/ Essential Job Functions:

  1. Assist with the review and audit of invoices. Assist staff with invoice-related issues and discrepancies. Keep abreast of all operating income/expenses and post ledger entries.
  2. Run trial balances, general ledgers, and verification of ledger balances to cash accounts. 
  3. Process bank reconciliations of Section 8 and payroll. 
  1. Process and allocate utility bills, ensuring accurate coding, timely posting, and compliance with company policies and accounting procedures.
  1. Process, review, and report 1099-MISC year-end reporting. 
  2. Assist with the Chart of Accounts by adding new account numbers, ledgers, and allocation tables.
  3. Assist in the preparation for annual and periodic audits.
  4. Oversee daily cash balance to ensure operational funding needs are met.
  1. Process tenant transfers and record changes as needed.
  2. Notify Housing Choice Voucher (HCV- Section 8) of any return ACH payments. 
  1. Prepare Tenant Account Receivables (TARS) data. 
  2. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education/Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in accounting required plus seven years minimum experience in Accounting.  Position requires extensive knowledge of: General Ledger, Journal entries/month-end closings, financial statement preparation, and financial statement analysis. Knowledge of accounting software and Information Technology; Yardi Voyager. Knowledge of public housing management principles and practices, governmental and HUD regulations relating to all Authority programs a plus.  Proven ability and professional experience in senior-level accounting. Experience dealing with vendors. Substantial knowledge of both commercial and government accounting is a plus. 

  • Understand the professional importance of maintaining the confidentiality of accounting data. 
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various departmental officials, employees and their representatives, professional groups, and the general public. 
  • Must have the ability to listen and communicate with a diverse group of individuals. 
  • Ability to make clear, logical, written, and oral presentations. 
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions independently. 
  • Proficient in Excel and MS Word. 
  • Possess a valid CT driver’s license.

 

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Sitting and working on a computer for extended periods, typing, reading, writing, filing, copying, faxing, answering incoming/outgoing calls, attending meetings, and training. Able to travel to PCC sites unaccompanied.
