Equipment & Facilities Maintenance Technician
Johnson Clarke, Inc., a Palm Beach Tan franchisee with 19 locations throughout the greater St. Louis area, is seeking a dependable and skilled Equipment & Facilities Maintenance Technician.
We are looking for someone who already has foundational hands-on experience in equipment repair, building maintenance, construction, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, appliance repair, automotive repair, or a related field. Experience working on tanning or salon equipment is not required. We will build on the skills you already have and provide specialized, hands-on training for our equipment and facilities.
The right candidate can troubleshoot problems, manage assigned work independently, and recognize when additional guidance is needed. Because most work is completed inside open retail salons, this person must also be professional, courteous, organized, and mindful of the experience of our customers and salon teams.
This position reports to the Head Maintenance and Facilities Technician and travels to Palm Beach Tan locations throughout the greater St. Louis area.
Responsibilities
- Travel independently to salon locations to complete assigned maintenance and repair work.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair tanning beds, spray booths, wellness equipment, washers, dryers, and other salon equipment.
- Perform tanning equipment lamp changes and preventive maintenance.
- Complete minor electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, drywall, painting, and general facility repairs.
- Replace lighting, fixtures, hardware, and other facility components.
- Assist with equipment installation, relocation, setup, and removal.
- Use hand and power tools safely and properly.
- Manage assigned work orders and communicate progress, delays, or additional repair needs.
- Document completed work, parts used, and recommended follow-up.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe, particularly while working in salons that are open to customers.
- Communicate professionally with salon employees, leadership, vendors, and customers.
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and transporting equipment, parts, and supplies.
- Follow all company safety procedures and applicable regulations.
- Respond to changing priorities and urgent maintenance needs when required.
Qualifications
- Previous hands-on experience in equipment repair, facilities maintenance, construction, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, appliance repair, automotive repair, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of common hand and power tools.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and practical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to assess a problem, determine the appropriate next steps, and work independently without constant supervision.
- Good judgment, including knowing when to ask questions or request assistance.
- Dependability, strong time management, and the ability to complete assignments on schedule.
- Excellent attention to detail and pride in completing work correctly.
- Professional appearance, conduct, and communication.
- Ability to work respectfully and discreetly in an active retail environment without unnecessarily disrupting customers or employees.
- Ability to follow written instructions, equipment manuals, safety procedures, and verbal direction.
- Willingness to learn unfamiliar equipment and expand existing technical skills.
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 75 pounds and assist with heavier equipment when needed.
- Ability to bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work in tight spaces.
- Ability to occasionally work outdoors in heat, cold, or rain.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to travel throughout the greater St. Louis area.
Training and Growth
We do not expect a new technician to know how to repair every type of equipment in our salons. We are looking for someone who brings practical experience, mechanical ability, good judgment, and a willingness to learn.
We will work with your existing strengths and provide ongoing training in the areas that are new to you. As your knowledge, abilities, and independence grow, you will have opportunities to take on additional responsibilities.
Schedule and Work Location
This is a field-based position without one assigned office location. Depending on the day’s assignments, you may begin work from home, our Westport Plaza location, or another designated location before traveling to salons throughout the greater St. Louis area.
Schedule: typically Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm, but may fluctuate
