Position Summary

A Field Service Technician (Rotator) is responsible for maintenance and service of USA Compression equipment reporting to the Area Service Manager (ASM). With minimal supervision and significant autonomy, the typical areas of responsibility include safely performing scheduled maintenance, maintaining and building customer relationships, and providing first line support for equipment troubleshooting. This role has a current pay range of $19/hr - $49/hr. The listed pay range represents the company’s good faith estimate of the minimum and maximum base rate of pay for this position at the time of this posting. The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on their work location, qualifications, relevant experience, operational needs, demonstrated performance over time, and internal pay alignment.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform preventive, corrective, and major maintenance on natural gas compression equipment (engines, compressors, coolers, and related systems).
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation issues to restore equipment performance.
  • Conduct engine overhauls, compressor rebuilds, and component replacements.
  • Support start‑ups, shutdowns, commissioning, and optimization activities.

Operational Support Across Regions

  • Travel to assigned districts to provide temporary coverage, assist with backlogs, or support new equipment deployments.
  • Respond to call‑outs and emergency situations during rotation.
  • Adapt to varying equipment packages, customer sites, and operating conditions.
  • Responsible for submitting accurate maintenance reports, expense reports, timesheets and other necessary paperwork daily.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all USA Compression safety policies, procedures, and environmental standards.
  • Participate in safety meetings, audits, and required training.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including work orders, service reports, and parts usage.

Customer & Team Collaboration

  • Serve as a professional representative of USA Compression at customer locations.
  • Communicate effectively with district leadership, dispatch, and fellow technicians.
  • Provide feedback on equipment performance, recurring issues, and improvement opportunities.


Qualifications

Required

  • Solid professional communication/interface skills with customer field personnel, onsite vendors, and other employees. This role is often the USAC position with the most customer interaction. Excellent customer service and positive communication skills are critical to the success in the FST role.

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in engines, rotating equipment, or heavy machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel extensively and work a rotational schedule.
  • Ability to work independently in outdoor, remote, and sometimes harsh environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.

Preferred

  • Prefer at least 3 - 5 years of experience in gas compression with preference to CAT, Ariel and/or Cummins certifications and experience. Depending on the equipment assigned, this role may maintain large or small horsepower units, gas lift or traditional compression units along with other related equipment associated with our business.

  • Technical certification or vocational training in diesel, natural gas engines, or industrial maintenance.
  • Prior experience in oil & gas field operations or compression services.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.

Work Environment

  •  Typically, an FST’s work day consists of driving a USA Compression service vehicle to customer locations to perform repair and maintenance activities. The role rotates 14 days on/off away from home to our workplace.

  • This position is 100%25 on-site and field-based; no remote or hybrid options.
  • Some exposure to high noise levels in excess of 85dBA that require ear protection, as well as exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals and materials.

  • Extensive travel required during rotation; lodging provided per company policy.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather, rotating equipment, and industrial environments.
