Job Type: Full Time (40+ hrs. a week) 12hr. rotating shift including weekends and holidays.


Job Description:


This is a full-time position that consists of operating and tending to our industrial boilers to produce steam for our continuous kilns. The Boiler Operator is someone that has initiative and a willingness to work with little to no supervision with a responsibility for monitoring boiler systems water levels, steam pressure, and steam output. Industrial Boilers are water-containing vessels that generate steam with the help of a heat source. The steam is then transferred to the lumber kilns in order to dry the lumber that is produced from the sawmill.

 

Essential duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for keeping water tank levels within standard operating procedure requirements.
  • Responsible for monitoring steam levels assuring they are within standard operating procedure requirements for continuous drying.
  • Assist with cleaning of the boiler’s quarters and confined spaces.
  • Assist with daily preventative maintenance of assigned equipment. 
  • Responsible for clean-up around the boiler areas and reporting of any potential dangers. 
  • Transport of materials to and from work areas manually or using carts, hand trucks, or hoists. 
  • Accurately report/document daily well readings.
  • Assist boiler helper and maintenance as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
    Requirements:
  • Understand and follow oral or written instructions issued by supervisors.
  • Ability to work a 12-hr. rotating shift schedule with overtime and occasional call-ins.
  • Capable of managing critical events and prioritize in an emergency providing clear direction.
  • Perform a variety of duties which may often change.
  • Evaluate information using measurable standards.
  • Repeat tasks of short duration according to a set procedure.
  • Ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs.
  • Ability to watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure a machine is working properly.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Ability to complete daily reports as required.
  • Understand basic mathematical skills.
  • Understand basic machine components and operation.
  • Excellent eye-hand-foot coordination.
  • Solid decision-making skills.

Safety:

  • Follow all area/machine center specific safety regulations.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment: hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection, etc…as required.
  • Do not enter restricted areas.
  • Report immediately to supervisor any piece of equipment that is unsafe or functioning improperly.
  • Request assistance when a task exceeds individual knowledge.
  • Visually inspect equipment and area before starting/operating.
  • Whenever possible, eliminate unsafe conditions as soon as possible.
  • Use Standard Lockout Procedures when appropriate for machine centers.
  • Use proper lifting technique by pushing, pulling, and lifting with your legs and not your back.
  • Never approach a saw while it is still running.
  • Follow all other safety regulations as set forth by the company.
