Position Type: Seasonal, Full-Time, Hourly (Non-Exempt). This role is seasonal and is expected to conclude in late fall. Continued employment beyond the end of the season is not guaranteed.

Position Overview
The seasonal Greenskeeper position at The Virginian Golf Club is responsible for maintaining the pristine condition, playability, and visual appeal of the club’s 21-hole championship golf course. This role supports daily course operations by caring for turfgrass, bunkers, and landscaped areas while operating specialized equipment with precision and care. Working under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, the Greenskeeper contributes to the club’s reputation for excellence by ensuring an exceptional playing experience for members and guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers to uphold course standards.
- Mow, trim, and edge playing surfaces with precision to maintain consistent turf quality and play conditions.
- Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and soil amendments safely and in compliance with state and environmental regulations.
- Operate, clean, and maintain mowers, tractors, and other turf maintenance equipment according to established procedures.
- Inspect course features and report any damage, turf stress, or irrigation issues promptly to supervisors.
- Assist with irrigation operation, monitoring, and basic system repairs as needed.
- Participate in seasonal projects such as aeration, topdressing, overseeding, and course renovations.
- Support landscape maintenance around course perimeters, ponds, and common areas to maintain a polished appearance.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance facilities, tools, and storage areas.
- Adhere to all safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment that values quality, efficiency, and professionalism.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in golf course or turf maintenance.
- Knowledge of turf management practices, including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, and pest control.
- Experience operating and maintaining maintenance equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and utility vehicles.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Understanding of turfgrass science and environmental best practices.
- Skill in the safe operation of groundskeeping tools and heavy equipment.
- Ability to diagnose and respond to turf health or irrigation system issues.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Commitment to maintaining course aesthetics and playability.
Work Environment / Physical Requirements
- Outdoor golf course environment exposed to varying weather conditions.
- Requires walking, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., and operating equipment for extended periods.
- Fast-paced, team-oriented setting with an emphasis on safety, precision, and course presentation.
